Warner Bros.' space race drama The Right Stuff, which ran on Disney+ for one season, will not return for a second.
The series is now being shopped to other outlets, as reported by Deadline. This is the first time that the relatively new but massively successful streaming service Disney+ has cancelled one of its scripted series.
The Right Stuff premiered in October as one of the streamer's first original drama series. It was based on the nonfiction account of the U.S. space program written by Tom Wolfe, and centers on the lives of Major John Glenn and Lieutenant Commander Alan Shepherd, exploring how astronauts in 1959 gained celebrity status through the high-stakes competition of the time.
Originating at National Geographic, the show was said to perform only modestly for Disney+. However, it has a chance at finding a new home for continuation, with its studio potentially looking into WarnerMedia's TNT or HBO Max. In November, The Right Stuff was awarded $13.7 million under the CFC program to move its production to California, adding incentive for WarnerMedia to renew it.
Starring Patrick J. Adams, Jake McDorman, Colin O’Donoghue, Eloise Mumford, James Lafferty, Nora Zehetner, Eric Ladin, Patrick Fischler, Aaron Staton, Michael Trotter, Micah Stock, Shannon Lucio and Josh Cooke, the first season of The Right Stuff is available to watch on Disney+.
