Disneyland's Star Wars Ride Shortened to Meet COVID Protocols

Not even the galaxy far, far away is safe from COVID-19.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, located in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif, is instituting new coronavirus protocols in preparation for its April 30 reopening.

According to The Los Angeles TimesCalifornia health regulations state that all indoor rides must be 15 minutes or shorter. The indoors Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is 18 minutes, so Disney is finding ways to cut the ride time by a few minutes. This includes getting rid of what Disney is calling "dwelling points," including a part of the attraction where riders are met by Kylo Ren and a segment where they are allowed to mingle in front of a unit of Stormtroopers. A speech given by Rey at the start of the ride may also be shorted. However, the park promised that core plot points and excitement will remain.

Disneyland is also expanding its virtual queueing system for the ride. While visitors are usually only allowed to join the queue once, they are now allowed to do it twice — at 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. Park attendees can join the morning queue without having to be in the park, while the afternoon one requires one to be inside either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure Park.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened in January 2020 in Disneyland, just two months before the park closed due to the pandemic. It allows riders to join the Resistance and fight the First Order, and features the voices of Star Wars cast members Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson and Kipsang Rotich. It is one of two rides in the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge area in Disneyland, along with Star Wars: Millennium Falcon – Smugglers Run

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is not the only new attraction guests will be able to enjoy when they return to Disneyland. On June 4, the highly anticipated Avengers Campus will open to the public in California Adventure. Located right by the existing Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission Breakout!, the Marvel-themed are will include a Spider-Man ride, as well as restaurants based on Ant-Man and the Wasp and the shawarma shop from The Avengers.
