Falcon & Winter Soldier Finale Sets Up Potential Second Season

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier producer believes there's plenty of potential for a second season of the Disney+ show.

Producer Nate Moore spoke to IndieWire about Marvel's plans to submit the show for Best Drama Series at the Emmys, meaning it won't go up against WandaVision in the Best Limited Series category. He then briefly touched on the possibility of the show getting another season, saying that this week's finale will point the way forward for future stories.

"We've definitely kicked around ideas because we always like to keep thinking about where things can go, but we also, frankly, in the crush of the pandemic, we're just trying to finish the show and make sure it got out in a timely matter," Moore said. "Hopefully at the end of this season, you will see the potential for what we could tell in a subsequent season."

Moore went on to discuss how WandaVision offered more of a closed story, whereas The Falcon and the Winter Soldier could go in a number of directions.

"I think WandaVision is a show you can only do once. She can’t go back into that reality," Moore said. "That is such a complete arc of what that character can do and what that story wanted to do, whereas Falcon and Winter Soldier is really about dealing with, to me, the legacy of what a superhero is, through the lens of Captain America and his shield, but ultimately through the lens of all these different characters. And that’s a story I think you can revisit in subsequent seasons because it's an evergreen story. It's a conversation."

Moore's comments echo what Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said last month, teasing that there was potential for a second season and that there were ideas for continuing the tale of Sam and Bucky. For now, however, there's been no official word on which Marvel/Disney+ shows will move beyond one season, as they've all been marketed as limited series so far. Sebastian Stan, for one, has claimed that he's interested in continuing to play Bucky, as long as Feige is involved.
