Marvel is always looking for ways to make their movies —and now Disney+ shows— even more entertaining, and as a result, a new habit seems to be forming in the MCU. This new habit is the revival of bit-part characters fans have seen briefly before from previous phases, even as early as phase 1, and finally giving them the screen time they deserve.
WandaVision kicked it off with the return of now-astrophysicist Darcy Lewis from the first two Thor movies, and with Jimmy Woo who was previously in the Ant-Man and the Wasp. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier reintroduced fans to Sharon Carter, aka Agent 13, who after her role in both of the previous Captain America movies, was given some well-deserved screen time, but her character has definitely changed since her SHIELD days.
10 Carter Is No Longer Working For Any Organization
Sharon Carter's first appearance in the MCU was in Captain America: The Winter Solider as the wide-eyed agent with the utmost loyalty for the organization she worked for. She was initially working directly with Nick Fury with the task of keeping an eye on the out-of-time super-soldier Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, as he adapted to the new modern world.
This was blown out of the window when the infiltrated SHIELD collapsed, but Carter went on to work with the government instead, but once again pledging her allegiance to an organization. Now, after being screwed over by the organization she worked for, Carter is now still a fugitive of the state with no association with anyone other than herself.
9 But, She Does Appear To Have Some New-Found Wealth
For someone on the run from the United States, no one would have expected Sharon to be living as comfortable a life as she is when fans met her again for the first time. Living in a pretty luxurious High Town apartment in the center of Madripoor, Sharon's new job as a dealer in stolen famous art pieces from across the globe sure makes her a lot of money.
As she explained to Bucky and Sam, if she's going to be on her own, she's going to live a life of hustle. In fact, her newfound wealth has led her to a comfortable living situation, but also plenty of powerful connections, some of which may be on the less-than-legal side, and may even link to the Power Broker.
8 Is She Actually The Power Broker Now?
With any Marvel movie or show, fans are always coming up with the wildest of theories, and while this one isn't as outrageous as Mephisto turning up in the WandaVision finale, the theory that Sharon Carter is the infamous Power Broker is still pretty exciting. Since the third episode dropped, the mysterious identity of Power Broker has remained a big talking point, but some signs may be pointing towards Carter as the underworld crime lord.
From her newfound wealth, her insane amount of connections, the fact that the Power Broker is also based in Madripoor, and the undeniable fact that Sharon is definitely hiding something pretty big when she tells her driver that she has "a big problem... a couple of them, actually," all point towards a potential twist in the season finale.
7 Has Sharon Carter Gotten A Power Upgrade?
Sharon Carter was always a pretty awesome fighter in her limited screen time in the Captain America movies, but when she single-handedly fights off a ton of bounty hunters while Bucky, Sam, and Zemo are interrogating Dr. Nagel, it seems as if she has become even more skilled and a bigger threat to anyone brave enough to fight her.
After beating up goon after goon, her now pretty brutal and dark fighting style, reminiscent of an action scene from John Wick, Sharon's life on the run has definitely made her a bit rougher on the edges, with her moves now reflecting that in pretty epic fashion.
6 She's Become An Absolute Badass
It's no surprise that living on the run for the past few years, and maybe even during the blip, would have a big impact on the character, and as a result a dramatic character change, and that's exactly what happened to Sharon Carter since her appearance in Captain America: Civil War. Her pretty shocking treatment as a fugitive of the state, while the other heroes on Team Cap have been pardoned, didn't sit well with her, and led to a shocking change in lifestyle.
She is now a much more brutal fighter but is also a mega-rich stolen-art dealer who appears to be out for herself and only herself, as she one hundred percent deserves to do. But as a result, she's become a bit of a badass, which many fans are excited to see.
5 Her Stance On Superheroes Has Changed
Being betrayed by anyone is deeply upsetting, but for a superhero who is known for only doing the right thing to betray you must sting quite a bit, and that's exactly what happened to Carter after the catastrophic events of the Civil War. While the other heroes, who were more officially members of the Avengers were either pardoned or put under house arrest, Carter was left completely out of the loop and considered an outlaw by the government.
As a result, her previous idealistic view on superheroes has taken a turn for the worse as she now thinks the whole idea of heroes and the Captain America shield and mantle are all a hoax, which given what she's been through is fair enough.
4 She's Now Based In An Unkown City Called Madripoor
Another surprise addition to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was the on-screen introduction of the mysterious pirate city of Madripoor. The globe-trotting series landed in a fictional city this time, which is home to many great storylines from the comic books, one, of course, being Wolverine and his famous Princess Bar, which was also in the show but also shed new light on the new Sharon.
Her dramatic life change as she is on the run from America leads her to a new life in crime in Madripoor and sees her in a completely different location and backdrop to her usual home of Washington DC. In fact, even though fans saw her in other cities like Berlin and Vienna, Madripoor is still an epic change.
3 She No Longer Trusts Captain America
In another forgettable —and probably for the better— romantic relationship in the MCU, Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter shared some mutual feelings and an eventual kiss in Captain America: Civil War. This was all blown out of the window as they both went their separate ways on the run from the government.
Even though Cap had a lot of other things going on, the fact that he and Sam didn't think to call or help Sharon out after that kiss is pretty surprising, and actually made Sharon resent him and what he stood for afterward. While Cap and the Avengers seemingly helped each other out, Sharon was left on the outskirts to fend for herself.
2 Carter Has A Brand New Driving Force After All She's Been Through
After her pretty tough past couple of years, her total abandonment by the Avengers, and that pretty tragic ghosting by Steve Rogers, Sharon Carter's view on the world has shifted from an idealistic and almost blind faith in authorities and heroes like the Avengers and Captain America to a more independent dark place where she hustles for herself only.
Carter seems to have a bit of anger in her as she's a bit more brutal and raw after all she's been through, which is completely understandable, but fans just hope that she hasn't taken a turn to the dark side and gotten involved in some illegal activities perhaps relating her to the Power Broker.
1 Finally, Carter Is Being Given The Screen time She Deserves
Despite her limited minutes in the two Captain America movies she featured in, her impact was pretty important and she had some epic moments that made fans really like her, but as with many Marvel side characters, her character development was pretty restricted and viewers don't actually know much about her other than some small little nuggets.
Finally, however, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sharon Carter has some well-deserved screen time in the show. From her awesome fight scene in episode three to the reveal of her new life and world in that same episode, fans are getting to see a new side to the beloved character, and fans can only hope for more before the series ends.
