Halloween Kills Photo Indicates a 1978 Flashback Sequence | CBR

It looks like the upcoming Halloween Kills film will honor the slasher franchise's roots with a flashback to the original horror masterpiece that created Michael Myers.

Producer Ryan Freimann shared a photo on Instagram of a station wagon with the Smith's Grove Sanitarium seal on the side. He captioned it with simply "Classic car....hmm."

In 1978's Halloween, Smith's Grove was the mental hospital where Michael Meyers was imprisoned after killing his sister at age 6. Fifteen years later, he escaped and terrorized his hometown of Haddonfield, IL. While the picture of the car doesn't indicate what flashback will appear in Halloween Kills, the photo teases that Smith's Grove will play a part in the film.

This isn't the only piece of iconography returning for Halloween Kills. A previous behind-the-scenes photo from 2019 indicates that a section of the film will take place around Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, the place where Michael stalked series protagonist Laurie Strode in 1981's Halloween II. In addition, Kyle Richards and Nancy Stephens will reprise their roles as Lindsey Wallace and Marion Chambers from the original film, while Anthony Michael Hall will take over the role of Tommy Doyle.

Directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan and Chris Bernier, Halloween Kills stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak and Judy Greer. The film arrives in theaters on Oct. 15. Its follow up, Halloween Ends is currently set for a theatrical release in 2022.
