Since John Cena started promoting HBO Max's upcoming series Peacemaker, the former WWE Champion turned action star has opted to show up to television interviews in his Peacemaker costume. What started out as a joke for Cena quickly became a preference, with director James Gunn confirming Cena even took a uniform home just to nap in it.
For his birthday, John Cena made a special request to Gunn and the Peacemaker team on Twitter, asking for an added "poop chute" feature to his Christopher Smith/Peacemaker's suit.
Cena wrote to Gunn, "They say timing is everything, and seeing as I may have 'borrowed' a FEW #Peacemaker costumes we can now get wardrobe to make new ones in a bigger size, oh and please recommend they install an empanada poop chute #Poopmaker."
The F9 star's playful ask was a reply to Gunn teasing Cena he might have to face-off against empanadas again. In honor of Cena's birthday, Gunn revealed that Episode 8 of Peacemaker will show his character eating and he decided it'd be empanadas.
Gunn's empanada choice was a playful jab at Cena, regarding an upcoming scene in The Suicide Squad. Previously, Cena shared on the set of 2021's The Suicide Squad he asked Gunn if his character, Christopher Smith, could eat an empanada in one bite. Cena initially thought, "Oh it'd be funny to eat the whole empanada, throw the thing over the shoulder and the guy catches it. It's gonna be great. Everyone's gonna think it's awesome!'"
However, the star had to do 40 takes of the scene, leading him to eat 40 empanadas whole in one day -- deeming it the "most difficult stunt" of The Suicide Squad.
Peacemaker expands upon the world that Gunn created for the upcoming DC Extended Universe film The Suicide Squad. While the plot of the eight-episode HBO Max series is being kept secret, Gunn previously stated that the show "is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag."
Written and produced by James Gunn, Peacemaker stars John Cena, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Chris Conrad, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang and Christopher Heyerdahl. The eight-episode series will arrive on HBO Max in January 2022.
