In honor of Pets Day -- which takes place this weekend on Sunday, April 11 -- Sony has released a new Hotel Transylvania short film titled Monster Pets: A Hotel Transylvania Short.
Released on Sony Pictures Animation's official YouTube channel, Monster Pets follows Dracula (Brian Hull) as he attempts to find a new monster pet companion for his giant puppy, Tinkles (Derek Drymon). The short is executive produced by Hotel Transylvania creator Genndy Tartakovsky, as well as Michelle Murdocca; directed by Jennifer Kluska and Drymon; written by Kluska; and produced by Christian Roedel. In addition to its YouTube release, Monster Pets can be seen on the big screen exclusively at Cinemark theaters.
"What would it be like if the Drac Pack all owned pets? We couldn't be more excited to jump back into the world of Hotel Transylvania, and explore all the fun and lovable frustrations of pets through a monster lens," said Kluska and Drymon. "What happens when your golden retriever is five stories tall? Or your chihuahua breathes fire? Being able to introduce an all-new group of characters in Monster Pets who are just as funny and weird as the Drac Pack was an absolute blast. We hope audiences enjoy the short, and look forward to seeing the monster pets make an appearance in the upcoming Hotel Transylvania: Transformania!"
"This short has been a labor of love from the teams at Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks, and we're pleased that we can bring heartfelt laughter to families around the world in this time," added Roedel. "The Hotel Transylvania franchise is all about family, and it has been an honor to work alongside our newest members Jennifer and Derek, the amazing directing duo who will take the reins for this exciting new chapter."
Directed by Tartakovsky, the original Hotel Transylvania film released in theaters in 2012. Tartakovsky returned to helm two sequels, Hotel Transylvania 2 and Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, which released in 2015 and 2018, respectively. Kluska and Drymon are set to direct the Tartakovsky-written fourth film, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, which is slated for release on July 23. Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg and Selena Gomez are expected to reprise their roles as Dracula, Johnny and Mavis, respectively. Gomez will also executive produce alongside Tartakovsky.
Directed by Jennifer Kluska and Derek Drymon, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania opens in theaters July 23.
