Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park tweeted a never-before-seen WandaVision concept art photo depicting Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff in a different suit than what's seen in the Disney+ show.
"Here's the Scarlet Witch design I did with her cape & hood. I loved creating both her looks with & w/o the cape & hood. They have 2 very distinct feels that she can create as she desires. I call this her Red Riding Hood look," Park wrote on Twitter. The costume bears a fairly similar appearance to the one the show ultimately used — with some notable differences. The inclusion of short sleeves with shoulder pads is visible, but what really stands out is the emphasis on Wanda's flowing cape and hood. At the end of the finale episode, Scarlet Witch flies away from Westview with a similar-looking cape, indicating the idea wasn't completely scrapped.
Since her debut in 2013's Avengers: Age of Ultron, the magical character was known by her real name, Wanda. It wasn't until the finale of WandaVision that viewers got the definitive "Scarlet Witch" title, coinciding with an all-new look, inspired by her traditional costume. Wanda wore a more comic-accurate version of her outfit as part of a Halloween costume earlier in the series, a look she described as a "Sokovian fortune teller." The hero's final outfit — although inspired by that same comic book version — is much darker and comes with a smaller crown and a sleek red and black design.
Last month, Park tweeted a similar picture depicting the approved look for Scarlet Witch's big reveal in WandaVision. According to the show's director and executive producer, Matt Shakman, Olsen played an integral part in designing the costume. The actor sought out a "practical" approach to her costume so she could move around easily, ultimately culminating in her sleek, mostly cape-less appearance. While there's been no word on a second season of WandaVision, Scarlet Witch's journey is confirmed to continue in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, set to release in 2022.
