Xbox Celebrates Bethesda's Acquisition with Family Portraits

Xbox celebrated National Siblings Day and its acquisition of Bethesda by posting a hilarious photo inspired by Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly's iconic photo from the 2008's Step Brothers.

On April 10, Xbox posted on Twitter an image of the animated bodies of Ferrell and Reilly as Master Chief and Doom Guy, representing the Halo and Doom video game franchises.

The caption on the photo read, "We had some one-of-a-kind portraits commissioned in honor of @Bethesda joining the family and we’ll be posting them throughout the month! #NationalSiblingsDay."

In March 2021, Microsoft announced it had acquired Bethesda's parent company ZeniMax, as well as a slew of sub-studios associated with the brand, as part of a $7.5 billion deal. Among the 23 first-party studios that now fall under Microsoft's banner are Arkane, id Software, MachineGames and Tango Gameworks.

"This is the next step in building an industry-leading first-party studios team, a commitment we have to our Xbox community," Microsoft's Executive Vice-President of Gaming Phil Spencer wrote in an Xbox Wire post about the deal. "With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players."

Among the most-anticipated Bethesda titles are The Elder Scrolls 6, Starfield and an Indiana Jones game from MachineGames. The company also has plans to release two timed exclusives for PlayStation 5: Arkane's Deathloop and Tango Gameworks' Ghostwire: Tokyo.

In related news, Arkane recently confirmed that the release of Deathloop has been pushed to fall 2021. In a short video posted on Twitter, Deathloop game directors Dinga Bakaba and Sebastien Mitton explained they have "made the very hard decision to delay the launch of Deathloop until September 14, 2021." The pair added that the delay will allow their team more time to accomplish their "goal of creating a fun, stylish and mind-bending player experience."

Also, Xbox recently confirmed that the former PlayStation exclusive MLB The Show 21 is heading to Xbox Game Pass for the first time when the game officially launches on April 20. The release will be accessible to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One gamers, as well as Ultimate members using Android phones and tablets via Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta).
