They tend to rely on the hope that they can defeat their enemies before they can close the distance, or rely on teammates who can make up for their complete lack of defense.
These characters are most useful in a team's backline, otherwise, they tend to become more of a liability than an asset. When their offensive ability misses, glass cannons almost always pay the price. There are many glass cannon characters in anime, and if it weren't for the fact that they are so weak defensively, they would be nearly unstoppable.
