The smallest characters in anime are often the ones that are full of surprises. What they lack in height or age, they often make up for in either strength or intelligence. Many tiny characters are prodigies, young children who have proven themselves to be even more capable than most of the grown adults around them.
Although they may not excel socially, due to the fact that they are often underestimated or too smart to get along with others their own age, these characters are often able to earn the respect of others. Their knowledge can make a big impact, improving the lives of others, most notably the ones that they want to protect.

She earned the respect and the loyalty of her subordinates by proving her competence and by executing harsh punishments on those who question her authority.
9 Dragon Ball: Bulma Is Smarter Than Even Her Father
Bulma is the daughter of Dr. Brief, the creator of the Capsule Corporation. Bulma is a genius who would even give her father a run for his money, given that she created her fair share of inventions by the time she was a teenager.
She can repair most things, understand foreign technology, and has even invented the Dragon radar, which was designed to pinpoint the location of each Dragon Ball on the planet. This is a feat that even the Red Ribbon Army couldn't accomplish.
8 Dr. Stone: Senku Ishigami Creates Countless Inventions
Senku is humanity's best hope in reviving the petrified people on the planet. After so many centuries of people living as stone statues, most evidence of humanity's time on the planet has disappeared.
This meant that Senku had to re-invent various tools that would help him to survive and to make life convenient for people who woke up in the stone world. Although he is not the biggest or toughest guy out there, he has outsmarted people on countless occasions.
7 The Promised Neverland: Norman Overthrew The Demon Government
Norman, alongside Emma and Ray, were the smartest children at Grace Field House. Although it came at his own expense, he played a critical role in helping most of the children escape before they could be eaten by demons.
After being sent to an experimental facility, he helped the children there escape too. Fueled by his hate of demons, he killed a countless number of them and even killed the strongest ones, who ran the demon government.
6 Death Note: Near Outsmarted Light Yagami
Near is a teen with a childish appearance that makes people question his abilities. However, he quickly proves that he is worthy of being called L's successor. He deduces that Teru Mikami is Light's proxy, and tricks him into revealing Kira's identity.
Teru writes down the names of a group of people onto fake Death Note paper, and he only leaves out Light Yagami's name. Unable to talk himself out of this situation, Light finally confesses.
5 No Game No Life: Shiro Is Talented At Games That Require A Lot Of Thinking
Shiro, like her brother Sora, is a genius. She usually directs her talents to games and is the best at hundreds of them. Shiro has won every chess match that she has played, and she has such an excellent memory that she is able to quickly learn languages, which is why she knows how to speak over a dozen of them.
She and her brother are more powerful as a team, as one sibling steps in when the other is at a loss.
4 Fairy Tail: Mavis Vermillion Is A Master Strategist
Mavis Vermillion was referred to as the Fairy Tactician, given that nearly all of her strategies were successful. She was appointed the first leader of the Fairy Tail guild, and kept the guild members alive and well during the Second Trade War.
Her intelligence led her to outwit many people who were older than her, and she was able to execute complex spells on her own. Mavis was even the one responsible for finally defeating Zeref.

Edward may have ignored warnings to never perform Human Transmutation, but the fact that he got the science down perfectly showed just how intelligent he is.
He immersed himself in alchemy from a very young age and was trained by Izumi Curtis, so he sees the world differently than an ordinary child would. When he grew a little older, he became the youngest State Alchemist at age 12, passing every test required.

Toshiro is one of the most gifted child prodigies in the series, given that he was able to obtain his Bankai and became the youngest Captain in the Gotei 13. In a single year, he graduated from the Shinigami Academy with flying colors.

Izzy Koushiro is one of the DigiDestined and owns the Crest of Knowledge, which is perfectly suited for someone as intelligent as him. Despite being only a 4th grader, he is an expert when it comes to computers.
His ability to observe things and his thirst for knowledge are what keeps the group alive and well in a foreign world. Even in the movie, Izzy's expertise is the main reason why the other DigiDestined were able to save the world.
