Dragon Quest turns 35 this year, and a special anniversary livestream features the first look at the newest Dragon Quest video game.
The new game, Dragon Quest XII: Flames of Fate, had a brief teaser that revealed the game's official title. A massive flash of fire races through a rocky landscape, forming the Roman numeral for 12. The Dragon Quest logo appears shortly after. Series creator Yuji Horii revealed that Flames of Fate will take a more adult tone than previous entries and changes will be made to the traditional turn-based battle system. Publisher Square Enix also plans to have a simultaneous worldwide release for Flames of Fate.
Other announcements include a remake of Dragon Quest 3 using the 'HD-2D' art style made popular in Octopath Traveler and an expansion to Dragon Quest 10 that was only previously available in Japan. An offline version of Dragon Quest 10 will also be available to play.
Rounding out the announcements is a new pair of games, Dragon Quest Treasures and Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi. Treasure is described as an 'RPG treasure hunting adventure' set before the events of Dragon Quest 11. Keshi Keshi is a mobile puzzle game that features characters from across the Dragon Quest franchise, with players aiming to erase graffiti in various environments.
