The Godzilla Singular Point anime series has set a global release date on Netflix this summer.
Netflix announced that the currently airing Godzilla Singular Point anime will become available for the first time for global audiences on June 24. The series previously aired March 25 on Netflix in Japan and premiered on Japanese networks Tokyo MX, KBS Kyoto, BS11 and Sun TV on April 1. Each of the anime's planned 13 episodes is scheduled to debut on Netflix before their television broadcast. The first eight episodes of the anime have already aired.
Studios Bones, who has produced ongoing anime My Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100 and both versions of the classic anime Fullmetal Alchemist, and Orange (Beastars, Black Bullet) are co-producing Godzilla Singular Point. Studio Bones is in charge of traditional hand-drawn animation, and Studio Orange is in charge of the 3DCG. Atsushi Takahashi (Blue Exorcist The Movie, Monster, RideBack) is directing the series, and award-winning speculative fiction novelist Toh Enjoe (The Empire of Corpses, Self-Reference ENGINE), whose anime experience involves only two episodes of Space Dandy, is supervising and writing the scripts.
Blue Exorcist mangaka Kazue Katō is drafting the original character designs, former Studio Ghibli key animator Eiji Yamamori (The Wind Rises, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away) is designing the series' Kaiju monsters, and Satoshi Ishino (A.I.C.O.: Incarnation, Date A Live, No. 6) is adapting Katō's original character designs for Godzilla Singular Point. Ryuichi Ikeuchi and Yuushi Koshida, who have previously worked on Terror in Resonance and The Rising of the Shield Hero, and Masashi Suzuki (Howl's Moving Castle, Ghost in the Shell: Arise) are uniting to direct the CG, and Kensuke Yamamoto (Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence) is directing the visual effects.
As for the music, Kan Sawada, who has composed soundtracks for several Doraemon films and the Yowamushi Pedal franchise, is writing Godzilla Singular Point's score. Sawada is joined by the idol group BiSH and the J-rock band Polkadot Stingray, who are performing the anime's opening theme "in case..." and the ending theme "Aoi" (Blue), respectively.
Godzilla Singular Point follows two young scientific geniuses -- graduate student Mei Kamino and engineer Yuri Arikawa -- in Nigashio City, Chiba Prefecture in the near-future of 2030. Complete strangers, Kamino and Arikawa are suddenly brought together when they both hear a mysterious song. The two realize they must work together to save the world when an unprecedented, monstrous danger rises up from the depths.
Directed by Atsushi Takahashi and written by Toh Enjoe, Godzilla Singular Point arrives globally June 24 on Netflix.
