Loki: Marvel's Next Show Next Builds a 'New Corner of the MCU'

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded over the years, crossing through the vast boundaries of space and even time itself. According to showrunner Michael Waldron, the Loki series will continue this trend.

"My pitch for the show was kind of a big, crazy, fun time adventure," Waldron told EW, also revealing that the Time Variance Authority captures Loki in order to fix the damage he caused to the timeline. "The TVA is just an entirely new world [with] a new cast of characters, and that’s what felt most exciting about the show: building a new corner of the MCU."

EW also revealed a new image from Loki which shows the God of Mischief being restrained by the TVA's soldiers, including Wumni Mosaku's Hunter. Loki picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, which features the Loki from 2012 escaping into the timestream with the Tesseract. Working for the TVA, Loki is slated to visit multiple points in time -- and rumors point to Loki having an encounter with his female self. Disney+ will host watch parties featuring Loki's appearances across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and plans to continue the trend with each episode of Loki.

In addition to Loki, Waldron will also pen the script for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is being directed by Sam Raimi and spins out of the events of WandaVision. He is also slated to write the screenplay for a Star Wars film produced by Marvel Studios President and Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige.

Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard E. Grant. The series premieres June 9 on Disney+.
