Naruto's 10 Biggest Failures, Ranked | CBR

Naruto is a series that holds a special place in so many people's hearts. It follows the life of Naruto Uzumaki as well as his friends' journey towards becoming the Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village, Konoha. Naruto has some of the strongest characters with a wide range of skill sets.

Despite all their victories, there have been times when the characters have failed to achieve their goals. Some have had little to no consequences, while others have caused considerable damage and even costed lives at times. Some failures have been too painful to bear.

10 When Naruto Failed To Stop Sasuke From Leaving Konoha

Sasuke Uchiha moving over to the dark side was one of the most heartbreaking moments. His resentment for his brother and his need for power got the better of him. Through it all, his one companion was Naruto. Naruto also had a lonely childhood and probably understood Sasuke the most, which is why it was so important for him to save Sasuke.

Unfortunately, Naruto was unable to stop Sasuke from joining Orochimaru. Their battle was one to witness, but Naruto's efforts were not enough to stop Sasuke. It was one of Naruto's biggest regrets and one failure he tried to make up for in the entire series.

9 When He Couldn't Keep The Nine-Tails Under Control

Naruto eventually learned how to use the Nine-Tails' chakra without letting it take over him. However, in the beginning, on several occasions, he was not able to keep it in check. As a result of his incompetence, people got hurt.

On one occasion, he even hurt Sakura while fighting Kabuto as he could not distinguish between a friend and an enemy. This has caused him a lot of anguish and hurting the people he holds dear has had its effects on him as well.

8 When He Defeated Pain But Lost Konoha

Naruto's strength had increased considerably by the time he battled Pain. His skills were enough to defeat Pain and the Six Paths of Pain. Their battle also revealed Pain's (or Nagato's) true intentions, and Naruto was also able to make Nagato put his faith in Naruto.

Despite this huge victory, Naruto failed to save Konoha as he didn't get there in time. The damage done by Nagato to the lives of the villagers was reversed, however, the village was destroyed completely. They had to put in a lot of work to rebuild Konoha.

7 When His Lack Of Combat Skills Caused Chiyo's Death

After Gaara was kidnapped by the Akatsuki, Naruto, along with other combatants of Konoha, went to rescue him. Although they gave it their best, Naruto was not trained enough to handle the Akatsuki. This proceeded to the Shukaku inside Gaara being extracted, which resulted in Gaara's death.

Unfortunately, this made Naruto break down as there was nothing he could have done to bring Gaara back. Seeing his desperation and commitment to helping Gaara, Chiyo sacrificed her life so Gaara could get his back. If Naruto had been strong, tactical, or quick enough, then Chiyo wouldn't have had to give up her life.

6 When He Prioritized Being The Hokage Over Being A Father To Boruto

Naruto's main aim in life has always been to become the Hokage. He has trained day and night and never given up even when the odds were stacked against him. His efforts paid off and he got to where he wanted to be.

This, however, had an impact on his personal life. Naruto's duties and responsibilities as the Hokage prevented him from being there for Boruto. Even though he tried his best, his title obliged him to put his role as the Hokage over his own son.

5 His Delay In Learning About The Nine-Tails

Naruto grew up alone and that's why he did not have anyone to teach him about him being a Jinchuriki and harboring the Nine-Tailed Fox. Even so, he should have made more of an effort to learn about his past and where he came from. He could have taken help from Kakashi instead of waiting until Jiraya told him.

Learning about this earlier on would have saved him so much trouble later and also would have helped him evolve sooner. His control over the Nine-Tails' chakra would have been better and his training would've gone more smoothly had he known.

4 He Relied Too Much On The Nine-Tails

After he found out about the Nine-Tailed Fox being inside him, he would often rely on its chakra when he was losing a battle. Initially, he was not strong enough to fight certain enemies on his own and once he realized that letting the Nine-Tails take over him allowed him to become stronger, he started giving in whenever he was close to suffering a loss.

Although in the beginning this may have served him, it only harmed him as well as those around him. Instead, if he had put in efforts to learn how to better control the Nine-Tails while also improving his own strength, he would've stopped himself and others from suffering a lot of pain.

3 His Ignorance Towards Hinata's Feelings

Hinata's affection for Naruto began when he stood up for her against bullies when they were kids. His bravery and headstrong attitude has always inspired Hinata to stand up for what she believes in and to never give up on her dreams.

In spite of openly declaring her affection for Naruto while fighting Nagato, Naruto remained oblivious to her true feelings for him. This caused him to unintentionally hurt her. Their bond could have started much earlier if he had acknowledged how she felt for him rather than dismissing it.

2 Failed To Save Sasuke, Again

After Sasuke left Konoha, Naruto had gotten chances to defeat Sasuke and bring him back. However, his shortcomings got the better of him. When they met at Orochimaru's hideout, Naruto simply was not strong enough and the only reason he was not killed is that Orochimaru stopped Sasuke.

Another instance is when Naruto and Sasuke confronted each other but matched in strength. They vowed to kill each other the next time that they fought. This could have been avoided if Naruto had realized his own capabilities ahead of time and trained harder.

1 When Naruto Failed The Chunin Exam Against Konohamaru

The first time that Naruto appeared for his Chunin Exam, he ended up being suspended due to unforeseen circumstances. He decided to take the Chunin Exam once again. He passed the first round and was pitted against Konohamaru for the second round. Their bickering caused them to not hear the rules of the exam.

While battling Konohamaru, Naruto used a Jitsu which was forbidden to use in the exam to make it fair for the other Genin. Since Naruto had not heard the rules properly, he was not aware of this. He ended up being disqualified and was a Hokage without ever holding a rank beyond a Genin.
