Obi-Wan Set Photos Tease a Return to Tatooine | CBR

New set photos from the set of the Obi-Wan Kenobi show added more fuel to the fire that the series will take place in some capacity on Tatooine.

Bespin Bulletin posted four new images on Instagram of the Star Wars series' set featuring long, adobe-colored architecture usually associated with the spaceport Mos Eisley. The Instagram post features several work-in-progress sets that appear to be exteriors for Tatooine-style buildings.

These set photos are consistent with earlier reports and videos that the Kenobi series will take place on the planet of Tatooine. First appearing in Star Wars: A New Hope, Luke Skywalker was raised near Mos Eisley by the Lars family after being brought there by Obi-Wan following the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse have been confirmed to be reprising their roles as Owen and Beru Lars from Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Hayden Christiansen is also slated to return as Darth Vader / Anakin Skywalker.

Though the exact story details for Obi-Wan Kenobi have been closely guarded, the show will reportedly follow Kenobi on Tatooine as he protects and observes Luke Skywalker, keeping the future Jedi safe until he reveals himself to guide the boy during A New Hope. After being briefly touched on in comics, Kenobi's time in exile following Order 66 was featured briefly in the Star Wars Rebels animated series. The episode "Twin Suns" depicts Darth Maul pursuing and tracking down Obi-Wan in order to get his revenge for their previous encounters.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is not the first Disney+ original set in the Star Wars universe, nor will it be the last. Multiple live-action and animated Star Wars series are currently in development, including The Mandalorian spinoff series The Book of Boba Fett, an Ahsoka Tano series starring Rosario Dawson, the anime-inspired Visions and the highly-anticipated The Bad Batch, which will debut on Star Wars Day.

Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, Moses Ingram, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie. It will be directed by Deborah Chow. No release date for the series has been confirmed.
