Leslie Odom Jr. joins the ensemble cast of Rian Johnson's Knives Out 2.
The One Night in Miami actor joins a lineup that includes Kathryn Hahn, Janelle MonĂ¡e and Edward Norton, as reported by Variety. It was also revealed in early May that Dave Bautista had joined the film in a mystery role, while Daniel Craig will reprise his role as detective Benoit Blanc from the first film.
While details about the sequel's plot have been kept under lock and key, it was previously revealed that the project is being written and directed by Johnson. The director teased, however, that each of the planned Knives Out sequels will operate Agatha Christie-style "singular mystery," with Craig's Blanc taking on a new case in each one. Production on Knives Out 2 is set to begin this summer in Greece.
Odom is probably best known for originating the role of Aaron Burr in Hamilton: An American Musical, for which he won a Tony award. He most recently portrayed musician Sam Cooke in Regina King’s Oscar-nominated One Night in Miami. The role earned Odom two Oscar nominations, for Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Song for "Speak Now."
Released in 2019, the first Knives Out film centered on the mystery surrounding the death of crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). The film proved to be a box office hit, bringing in $311 million at the global box office on a budget of $40 million. Knives Out also earned Johnson an Oscar nomination for 2020's Best Original Screenplay.
Written, produced and directed by Rian Johnson, Knives Out stars Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Ana de Armas, and Jamie Lee Curtis, Jaeden Martell, Katherine Langford, Frank Oz, Toni Collette, Christopher Plummer, and Riki Lindhome. The film is now available on Digital HD and Blu-ray and 4K UHD. Knives Out 2 does not yet have a release date.
