Spider-Man Makes Tombstone and Robbie Robertson Realize How Similar They Are

WARNING: Spoilers follow for Amazing Spider-Man #65 by Nick Spencer, Federico Vicentini, Federico Sabbatini, Alex Sinclair & VC's Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

Two characters in the world of Spider-Man who hate each other more than almost anyone else are working together now for the greater good. Robbie Robertson is teaming with his old nemesis Tombstone to save their children.

This entire predicament came about because Wilson Fisk put a bounty on the head of Boomerang, and Madame Masque used this as a distraction to get her own piece of the pie. She ended up ignoring Boomerang when she attacked his apartment and instead kidnapped his roommate Randy Robertson and his girlfriend Janice Lincoln.

The goal of Madame Masque was to lead the parents of these two kids into a trap. By eliminating Tombstone, she could move in and take over his territory. If she eliminates Robertson, she get someone else in control of the biggest newspaper in the city who sees things a little more kindly when it concerns people like her. However, Randy and Janice told her she was crazy if she thought their parents would work ever together, even if it was to save them. However, the kids were wrong, as Tombstone and Robertson not only worked together, but they found something they had in common along the way.

Robbie Robertson and Tombstone have been enemies since they were school children. Tombstone bullied Robertson into throwing out a story that exposed his criminal activities while in school. Later, Robertson saw Tombstone kill someone, and once again the mobster bullied Robertson into silence. Robertson ended up in prison when the truth came out. However, the two are now working together in an effort to save their children, and both men have taken the blame for being catalysts of their current situation.

Tombstone tried to give Robbie a gun for his protection, but the journalist refused, explaining that he wasn’t a killer like Tombstone and his daughter. Robbie then said he shouldn’t blame Janice, since that is how Tombstone raised her. But Tombstone revealed that he never wanted his daughter to follow in his footsteps. He wanted her to be a lawyer, but she refused to listen. Robbie expressed an understanding of Tombstone's situation, and revealed that his son is rebellious as well. He also feels that if he had listened to his son more they wouldn't be in this situation.

Robbie and Tombstone reacted in anger when they learned their kids were dating, and it was that anger that pushed their children away. But the two rivals have since put their anger aside and worked together to come up with a plan to save their kids.  These two have hated each other most of their lives, but they have shown by example that their love for their children is stronger than their disdain for one another, perhaps finally realizing that there are far more important things in life than anger and vengeance.
