Superman: 10 Ways Jonathan Kent Has Changed Since 2015 | CBR

Superman is often thought of as the father of the DC Universe and in 2015, he was made into an actual father. He and Lois had a son, Jon Kent, and it just felt right. Readers loved the character and he would go on to become a new Superboy, helping his father in his battles to defend Metropolis and joining up with Batman's son Damian to form the SuperSons.

Jon Kent has been through a lot of changes with 2021 looking to put him through even more. He'll be getting his own title and using the Superman name, something foreshadowed in Future Sight, and show off how different he has become on a bigger stage.

10 He Learned To Control His Powers

Jon didn't have powers right away and when he finally did get them, he had to learn how to control them. It was his first steps into the bigger world of superheroism and he was helped by his father, who went through the same thing. This would be a big step for the young hero.

Kryptonian powers are some of the most formidable in all comics and Jon's mastery of his abilities was very important to his future. Superman knew how dangerous their powers could be, so he made sure his son could control them as much as possible, making him into a better hero.

9 He's Changed Costumes Several Times

Costume changes are pretty normal for superheroes. Even heroes with iconic costumes like Superman change things every now and again and his son was no exception. His first costume was simple- a Superman t-shirt, denim jeans, and a cape. He would eventually get a more traditional costume, one which he changed again recently.

Jon Kent's has had some pretty great costumes since his debut. His costumes trade on his father's, using the traditional Superman colors, but they have all been unique and fit a younger Superman perfectly.

8 He Met Conner Kent, The Other Superboy

While this doesn't seem like much of a change, meeting Conner Kent was a change for the entire Superman family. Conner had been removed from continuity and then returned. It took time before Conner met up with Superman again but when he did, the truth was revealed.

This changed the entire dynamic in the Superman family because it basically gave Jon a brother. It also gave him something to aspire to- Conner helped define the Superboy mantle. Knowing about Conner gave Jon a role model as Superboy that he never had before.

7 He Went Into Space With His Mother And Grandfather

A big change for Jon was meeting his grandfather for the first time, a change that would lead him into space. For the son of Superman, going into space for the first time is a big deal- Jon seeing the worlds his father had protected and how the universe worked was extremely important to his development as a hero.

This trip into space was extremely instructive for Jon- he realized the kind of person that Jor-El was and got to see firsthand how the other species of the galaxy lived and reacted to their circumstances. This would have profound effect on him going forward.

6 He Proved He Could Survive On His Own

During his time with Jor-El, Jon got separated and was swept into the Multiverse. Unfortunately for him, he found himself in one of the most dangerous universes- the one that contained Earth-3, the twisted home of the Crime Syndicate. He even encountered the evil version of his father, Ultraman.

He was held prisoner by Ultraman for years, kept out of the sunlight so his powers weakened. However, he was eventually able to escape and got back not long after he left, even though he had spent years away. This was a huge difference from how he had been before; he was not only older but proved he could survive in the worst circumstances all on his own.

5 He Was Behind The Creation Of The United Planets

The United Planets is one of the most important organizations in the future of the DC Universe. Nearly every known alien species is a part of it and they help defend member worlds against threats, bringing peace to the galaxy. The organization would never exist, though, if it wasn't for Jon Kent.

After seeing the galaxy with his grandfather, Jon had an idea- that the downtrodden of the galaxy should be taken care of. He was able to talk the most powerful alien governments into banding together, creating the UP and making sure that another important organization would come into existence.

4 He Survived His First Multiverse Changing Event

A rite of passage for every DC hero is their first multiverse changing event and Jon got to participate in his first one with Death Metal. Surviving the depredations of the Batman Who Laughs and his evil Batmen, Jon would join with his father, Conner, and even Superboy-Prime to battle against the forces trying to remake the multiverse in the Batman Who Laughs' twisted image.

Jon proved his worth during the battle, using everything his father taught him and he'd learn in the interim to survive, enabling the birth of a new DC Multiverse, one that borrowed heavily from the past but embraces a new future.

3 He Joined The Legion Of Superheroes

After the founding of the UP, the Legion of Superheroes came back in time to meet its founder- Jon Kent. In the 31st century, Jon is a legend, a celebrity that the team wanted to meet. They asked him to come to the future with them and he accepted, joining the group, the first team he ever was a part of.

Superman has been a huge part of the history of the Legion of Superheroes, so having Jon join the team and become its inspiration in his father's place is a huge change for the team and for Jon, showing just how great of a hero he would become.

2 He Met Damian Wayne And They Became Best Friends

Damian Wayne and Jon Kent are the greatest odd couple in comics. While their fathers had their moments, they can't touch Jon and Damian. Jon is his father's son- a good, kind soul. Damian is the ultimate spoiled rich kid but he has the skill to back it up, even if he goes too far in his fight against evil.

Jon and Damian sniped at each other all the time but their friendship was one of the purest and great for both of them. Damian learned how to be a better person from Jon and Jon learned about the darker side of the world. It made Jon a better hero in the long run.

1 He Is About To Become Superman

After returning from the future, Jon started hanging out with his father, helping him in the battle against evil and showing his father just how much he learned as a member of the Legion of Superheroes. Superman gained a lot of respect for his son.

Future Sight revealed that Jon was going to be Superman and he learned that at some point that his father would die. While no one knows how it's going to happen, Jon is about to become Superman, taking everything he's learned and putting it to work.
