The Boys Star Discusses How Hughie's Fear Evolves | CBR

The Boys star Jack Quaid loves exploring Hughie's "evolving" relationship to gore.

On The Boys Official Podcast's latest episode, "Blood, Guts & Lucy the Whale," Quaid discussed his character's development, highlighting Hughie's frequent encounters with buckets of viscera. With Season 3 of The Boys promising to be the goriest yet, Quaid shared how he wants to continue the show's running gag of a squeamish Hughie soaked in blood.

When asked about Season 2's iconic whale scene and how he felt about the gore it entailed, Quaid stated, "For the whale, Hughie gets covered in blood and we follow Hughie for the next several hours of his life. What that means for me is weeks of going on to the set and getting covered in blood first thing [every day]. It's hard to move, your clothes stick to your skin, it becomes hot and sweaty and the blood hardens on you to the point where your hair is basically a helmet."

"But I love the tradition of Hughie being covered in goo," The Boys star clarified. "Like, I just think that it's really fun. I wanna find a way to kind of evolve that over time to where Hughie gets less and less freaked out by it because of how used to it he must be at this point. No, I never want that to stop, despite how inconvenient that can be for me, the actor."
