After the successful debut of The Simpsons newest Star Wars-themed short, executive producer Al Jean teased that a Marvel-centered one could be next on the horizon.
When asked about a possible Marvel short, Jean told Variety, "I'm a huge Marvel fan. We’ve dealt with them in a couple of ways. We've parodied them a lot. We even had a couple of them, including Kevin Feige, on the show. So our relationship with them has only been fantastic."
Jean added, "Just as I’ve been inspired by Star Wars for 40 years, I grew up reading Marvel Comics. And have a bunch still. If somebody told me I’d grow up to write for Star Wars and Marvel I’d be pretty happy."
The showrunner continued to hint about a future Marvel crossover by revealing that 'The Force Awakens From Its Nap' is the first of many shorts that pay tribute to the House of Mouse's brands and titles. Jean announced that another one is already in production, noting, "I won’t say what it is but it’s also very exciting in different ways. The only goal is to sort of walk across the Disney+ tiles from Star Wars to Nat Geo and plant our seed everywhere."
In addition to the Star Wars animated short, The Simpsons currently has two other shorts on Disney+ -- 'Playdate with Destiny' and The 'Longest Daycare.' Both animated shorts follow the youngest family member Maggie taking part in some surprising action and antics.
Maggie Simpson in 'The Force Awakens From Its Nap' premiered on May 4 on Disney+.
