Yashahime: How Moroha Resembles Inuyasha & Kagome | CBR

Nostalgic Inuyasha fans were thrilled to see Yashahime bring in a new generation of young half-demons adventuring in Feudal Era Japan. Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha all descend from key characters in the original anime saga. While each girl stands alone as a distinct character, they all bear similarities to their parents – especially Moroha.

When Kagome and Inuyasha had Moroha, she was sent away as a baby to be kept safe from Kirinmaru, who seeks to destroy half-demons. Her parents were then sealed away inside the Black Rainbow Pearl, leaving Moroha to grow up without them. Instead, the Wolf Demon Tribe looked after her and told her very little about her parents. Despite this severance, Moroha still resembles Inuyasha and Kagome in looks, personality, and even fighting abilities.

The first and most obvious way Moroha embodies Inuyasha and Kagome is in her physical appearance. While she appears to be the spitting image of Kagome with those dark eyes and hair, she takes after Inuyasha’s fashion style, always wearing red and no shoes. Her big red hair bow even forms distinct points on the back of her head similar to Inuyasha’s dog ears. While her skin tone is more like her mother's, her eyes and face shape are closer to her father's.

Although Moroha descended from Inuyasha's two main protagonists, she often gets sidelined throughout Yashahime. With only a quarter demon blood (Inuyasha is half-demon and Kagome is human), Moroha doesn’t have quite the scale of demonic power that Towa or Setsuna have, but she still possesses key qualities from her demonic heritage.

Like Inuyasha, Moroha has enhanced smell and stamina and can harness the dog-demon power through her specialty attacks. She also has long nails that serve as claws, allowing her to perform her father’s signature move Sankon Tesso (or “Iron Reaver Soul Stealer”).

The Yashahime firecracker also transforms into Beniyasha, Destroyer of Lands, when she activates a rogue passed down from her paternal grandfather. With this ability, Moroha gets a taste of the full power of her demonic heritage and her eyes flare gold like Inuyasha’s. As Beniyasha, Moroha can also use her father’s signature move Hijin Kesso (“Blades of Blood”).

While Moroha’s demon power and sword skills certainly allude back to Inuyasha’s, she also proves herself to be a talented bowman, firing sacred arrows imbued with spiritual energy just like Kagome. Though Moroha's spiritual power isn’t quite as strong as Priestess Kagome’s, it does allow her to wield sacred objects like Purification Slat and create a barrier by using talisman parchment.

However, power alone isn’t what makes a character great – a large part of what makes Moroha a favorite of the Half-Demon Princess trio is her distinctive personality. She may not have been raised by her parents, but she still echoes their spirit. Moroha can be sunny and upbeat like Kagome while being just as boyish and impulsive as Inuyasha. As a lonely quarter-demon, Moroha has shown that she has to be very self-reliant like her father, but she also longs to find friends and family like Kagome.

The way she bickers with her cousins Setsuna and Towa is similar to the way Inuyasha would butt heads with Koga or even Kagome at times. Moroha can be incredibly stubborn, especially when her feelings are hurt -- as seen when she refused to slow down to travel with her cousins after they treated her poorly. If only Moroha had the power to say “sit boy!” and cause someone to crash into the ground, she’d use that devious power to get the upper hand in an argument all the time, just like Kagome.

Fans will have the chance to get to know Moroha even more in the confirmed second season: Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon: The Second Act.
