10 MCU Storylines Loki Could Set Up | CBR

With Loki on Disney+ earning praise and Kevin Feige’s promise that the series will have far-reaching impact on the MCU at large, it’s hard not to speculate on where that impact might land. With time travel and powers outside the usual framework of the universe involved, though, the possibilities are endless.

The TVA and characters from the comics that have heavy ties to the organization could easily reach into upcoming Marvel titles that have already been announced, or they could open the door to Avengers: Infinity War level events down the line. Through the multiverse, Marvel could introduce a host of characters from the comics. Only time will tell where Loki’s threads lead.

10 Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is only one step removed from Loki

It’s hard to look at the Loki series and not assume that the next Doctor Strange movie won’t tie in. Miss Minutes herself referenced a multiversal war, and how that would lead to “madness." The two projects also share a writer, as Michael Waldron is currently working on the latest script for Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme.

With the sacred timeline in serious jeopardy, it wouldn’t take much for Dr. Strange to step in to help calm the situation or fight off some invading realities to save the MCU.

9 Spider-Man: No Way Home and reality-warping possibilities

With a Dr. Strange cameo in the works and several actors from previous Spider-Man franchises, like Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina, confirmed to be appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, many fans are expecting at least a glimpse of the multiverse—specifically the Spider-verse—in this movie.

While it’s unlikely that Loki himself will show up in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the TVA could, and the events of the Loki series could explain how the story is possible, and why Dr. Strange needs to help out.

8 Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, or Kang the Conqueror makes his debut

Jonathan Majors has shot down rumors that he will appear in Loki, but that does not mean that Kang’s presence won’t be felt in the series. There are already threads connecting Kang and the TVA, through comics canon connections like his relationship with Judge Ravonna Renslayer, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

If Kang’s plans involve conquering the multiverse, then the consequences of Loki’s unraveling of the sacred timeline would play into that plan perfectly. How Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne will play into that plan, or how the Quantum Realm will feature, is still unclear.

7 The Fantastic Four and the headache they’ve given Mobius

The Fantastic Four also had the pleasure, in the comics, of being the first to come face to face with Mobius M. Mobius. He nearly wiped them from the timeline but did eventually let them escape—possibly paralleling the story with Loki—and they went on to meddle with time and reality for years to come. The Richards’ family line also leads to Kang in the end.

While it’s incredibly unlikely that the show will show the FF in all their superhero glory, files on Nathaniel Richards, or his son Reed could show up in the hunt for bigger and badder time criminals.

6 The fallout from Ragnarok on Earth

Sylvie Laufeydottir has appeared as the architect of the TVA’s downfall in episode 2 of Loki, but her name—Sylvie—conjures up another character from the comics, the second Enchantress, Sylvie Lushton. She was a normal kid in Oklahoma when Ragnarok sent Asgard to Earth, and Loki gave her abilities and set her against the Young Avengers.

Perhaps, in her timeline, the Asgardians meddled with the humans in Tønsberg, or she could be controlled by the Loki in charge, just like Hunter U-92 and Hunter B-15. Loki’s story and the magical implications could have consequences in Thor: Love and Thunder as well, with humanity having more contact with Asgard.

5 The Young Avengers face off against, or be helped by Kid Loki

Marvel is clearly building toward a Young Avengers property in the future, having introduced Cassie Lang, Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Eli Bradley, announcing Kate Bishop’s presence in the upcoming Hawkeye Disney+ series, and Kamala Khan in Marvels and the Ms. Marvel series. Kid Loki could round out that formation either as a teammate or as an antagonist.

The existence of variant Lokis throughout the multiverse would make it easy to introduce Kid Loki, who could manipulate the Young Avengers as he did in the comics, even just by having him show up on a feed in the TVA.

4 Kang the Conqueror’s long and complicated backstory

While Kang himself is not appearing in Loki, his story could still be in the plot, and hints about where and when he is, and what he’s up to, could be woven into Loki’s stories as well. Hints of another party, either during the current collapse of the sacred timeline or after—as Loki is getting a second season—could show an unnamed threat in Kang.

It’s possible that the other analyst that Renslayer mentioned to Mobius—and whose existence seemed to make Mobius a little jealous—could either be keeping an eye on Kang or be Kang himself.

3 America Chavez, kicking in time and space

Miss America will be introduced to the MCU in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but her ability to hop timelines and realities wouldn’t really work with the sacred timeline intact. Her origins in the Utopia Parallel—a reality outside of time, and likely outside the oversight of the TVA—could be introduced, at least as a concept in the Loki series.

Most likely, America’s story will be in the Dr. Strange movie, but the groundwork for her home reality could be set up in the chaos around the collapsing timeline.

2 Immortus vs. The Avengers

In the comics, the Time-Keepers send Immortus—who would later become Kang the Conqueror—against the Avengers to avoid a world where humanity destroyed everything. When the first assassin—the Space Phantom—failed the take care of the problem, Immortus fought them himself.

As the multiverse expands and gets more complex, the TVA might trim only the most destructive timelines and it’s possible they see the new Avengers—the Sam Wilson, Jane Foster version—as a threat.

1 Secret Wars could be the next multiversal war

Miss Minutes’ introduction video showed a multiversal war with timelines smashing into each other violently. This is very similar to the incursions that the heroes in the comics faced as the multiverse began collapsing in on itself. In 2015’s Secret Wars event, the collapse was stalled by Dr. Doom, Dr. Strange, and Molecule Man with a heavy dose of Beyonder power.

The creation of Battleworld—shards of other universes pulled together to form something like a world—could be the next step in the MCU, bringing together multiple versions of heroes and villains to duke it out.
