10 Things You Didn't Know About Mato Seihei No Slave | CBR

Mato Seihei No Slave is a manga that lets readers know right away what it's all about. Within one chapter, readers will know if it's something they will enjoy or not. It starts with an average male protagonist getting dragged into a conflict with creatures from a pocket dimension known as Mato. He's saved in the nick of time by Kyouka, who effortlessly slays a few beasts.

While this seems like a standard action manga opening, things take a sharp turn, and it becomes apparent why "slave" is in the title of the series. Fan service plays a large role in the series and may not be for everyone. For those unperturbed, here are ten things to know about the series.

10 The Story Is Set In 2020 & Resembles The Modern-Day World

Everything about the world in the manga resembles our own, with only one small difference, and that's the existence of the Mato pocket dimension. Rather than having to deal with a pandemic, the characters deal with an array of monsters and demons that threaten their world from another dimension. Their only line of defense against the monsters is an all-female anti-demon corps.

9 Only Women Gained The Power To Defeat The Creatures From The Mato Dimension

One of the key plot elements of Mato Seihei No Slave is that only women have gained the powers necessary to deal with the threats from the Mato Dimension. Due to this, all forms of gender equality have been abolished, making women the dominant gender in the world. It's an interesting idea to tinker with and could lead to a pretty deep story, but here, it's mostly used as an excuse to portray forms of BDSM on their male counterparts.

8 Peaches Harvested From The Mato Dimension Are The Source Of The Super Powers

The peaches harvested from the Mato Dimension are the main means of fighting back against the creatures within. They help grant women a vast array of powers to deal with the monsters.

Some of them are minor abilities, such as having super soldier skills, and others are more unique, such as Shushu being able to fluctuate her size. Beyond that, all of the other girls have an interesting range of abilities that lead to rather creative fights later in the series.

7 Men Are Used As Slaves & The Main Character Ends Up Tied To Multiple Women

More than the fighting and superpowers, the biggest plot point of the manga is the fact that men are slaves to women. It's why the main point of view is through Yuuki, a man who wished to be popular with women and ends up tied to Kyouka and the three other women she's in charge of. There's a lot that could be done with that fact, but for the most part, it's used for fan service moments at the end of battles or filler in between them.

6 The Creatures Housed In Mato Are Called Shuuki & Are Mindless Adversaries

There are no shades of grey in Mato Seihei No Slave, and to its credit, it doesn't try to be a deep manga. It knows what it is and what its audience wants. As such, the Shuuki are mostly mindless monsters who exist to wreak havoc on the world. Even the ones who can talk tend to be evil with no middle ground. Plenty of stories have had villains whose sole purpose was to be evil.

5 One Of The Characters In It Bears A Striking Resemblance To Hillary Clinton

Having real-life people inside manga isn't something new. It's happened plenty of times before. In Air Gear, the president looks exactly like Barack Obama, and there have been a few that have housed other presidents.

Mato Seihei No Slave does the same, only with Hillary Clinton as their stand-in president. It's a decision that makes plenty of sense given the fact that women are in charge of the world at this point.

4 The Peaches Only Grant One Power & Ingesting More Than One Has Severe Side Effects

The mystery around the peaches has yet to be revealed or even hinted at. The only thing that's been established is only one peach should be ingested. Attempting to eat more than one leads to mental instability, as shown by one of the women Yuuki runs into later on in the series. It's an interesting tidbit, giving firm consequences to anyone who tries to overdo it in a lust for power. That intrigue is even higher when no one knows what powers they will get until eating the peach.

3 All Of The Powers Have Drawbacks To Them

When it comes to superpowers, the biggest thing is making them balanced or, at the very least, with drawbacks attached to them. Shushu's ability to grow is limited, causing her pain if she tries to overdo it. Kyouka is the same way, her power allows Yuuki to gain great physical abilities, but it also forces her to reward him for jobs well done. These rewards are rarely something she wants to do, but her power forces her to do it.

2 A Harem Slowly Forms Around Yuuki As The Series Goes On

Given the title and the fact Yuuki is a slave from chapter one onward, it's surprising that, as the series goes on, he starts to build a harem that would rival even Kirito. It starts with Kyouka's group of four and slowly expands beyond that to incorporate others in the anti-demon corps and even some of the psychotic hybrids the group runs into later on. Given his personality, it's often used more for humor as Yuuki is often a panicking mess anytime someone makes an advance on him.

1 Yuuki's Powers Alter Depending On Who His Master Is

While Yuuki may not have the superpowers that the women have, he's able to help in combat thanks to being owned by Kyouka. Thanks to slave lending, this power alters depending on who is holding his chain. He can be anything from a massive hulking beast who can knock Shuuki out with ease or a speed demon, much like Soi-Fon in Bleach. It gives him a lot of versatility that continues to grow with each new master.
