Baron Zemo Assembles HIs Most FEROCIOUS Team Ever in Marvel's Heroes Reborn

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Heroes Reborn: Siege Society #1 by Cody Ziglar, Paco Medina, Pete Pantazis, and VC's Joe Sabino, on sale now.

Heroes Reborn has reinvented the Marvel Universe all by removing the Avengers from the timeline. The Squadron Supreme now stands proudly in place of the Avengers as Earth's Mightiest Heroes, although they are hardly the benevolent heroes that they imagine themselves to be. Their presence hasn't just changed the champions of this world, and Baron Zemo has just arrived to strike back at the Squadron with the most frightening team he has ever assembled.

Much like the primary Marvel Universe, the world of Heroes Reborn had a superhero civil war that pitted Nighthawk against Hyperion. The fallout of the war left the world less trusting of those that had been chosen to protect it, and as such the Squadron Supreme relocated their headquarters from the United States to the United Kingdom in an effort to become more globally aware. The heroes leading this effort, the Secret Squadron, are attacked by Baron Zemo and his Siege Society, and the results are brutal.

Much like his counterpart in the main timeline, Baron Zemo is leading Hydra to become a world superpower. In an effort to achieve his ends, he and a cadre of mercenaries launch an attack on the Secret Squadron. Zemo sees the Squadron's move to Europe as a direct attack on his own aspirations, and therefore unacceptable. Alongside him stands Wanda Maximoff aka the Silver Witch, who has plenty of reasons to want to see the Squadron fall after they killed her brother in Washington D.C. during a mutant protest years ago. The Soviet Agent, likewise, appears to have some kind of personal vendetta against the Squadron, although his motives may be more patriotic than anything. Victor Creed, Sabretooth, has joined Zemo's fight as well, and appears to be motivated primarily by the sheer amount of carnage he can cause.

The heavy hitters of the team are all backed up by the capable trio of Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton and Scott Lang, better known as the Black Widow, Hawkeye and Fire Ant respectively. Scott has apparently fallen back into his villainous lifestyle in this timeline, having at some point eschewed the notion that he could be anything more than a thief and mercenary. He isn't the only one to make a shocking heel turn, though. Much like Wanda, Natasha and Clint never got the chance to become heroes that they did in the primary Marvel Universe simply because the Avengers never existed to give them that opportunity. As such, Black Widow and Hawkeye have not only stayed their initial course as guns for hire, but they've even found no qualms whatsoever in working with Zemo.

The fact that Zemo's Siege Society contains so many individuals who were previously considered heroes is a nearly complete inversion of his traditional role of recruiting villains. In fact, this team is nearly the exact opposite of his recruiting of the Thunderbolts in the mainstream universe.

Even if Zemo isn't successful in his assault on the Secret Squadron, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Fire Ant are all able to make their escapes, meaning there is a good chance that the former Avengers will be seen again before the end of the series. With any luck, they'll get their shot at redemption before too long, especially with Blade and Captain America working together to recruit their own team of Avengers.
