Some of the most feared enemies to encounter in any campaign would be the chaotic and sickly evil Demon Lords of the Abyss. Throughout the D&D multiverse, many dangerous and sinister forces want to destroy the material plane. One group of fiends that are worshiped and feared across the realms are the Demon Lords.

The Demon Lords rule over specific layers in the infinite Abyss. Each Demon Lord is the embodiment of some chaotic evil ideal or way of life. The Demon Lords rule with an iron fist and will often battle the Devil rulers of The Nine Hells. Make no mistake: these Demon Lords are to be feared and provide an excellent challenge for high-level adventures.

10 Kostchtchie- The Imprisoned Demon Lord Of The Frost Giants

Kostchtchie is not as powerful as he once was. Kostchtchie is the Demon Lord of frost giants and rage. Those who pray or sacrifice to Kostchtchie may receive not only his blessing, but he would join those who prayed to him in the battle to defeat their enemy. The caveat is that any who had received aid from Kostchtchie would be driven mad with rage and eventually serve the Demon Lord in the Abyss.

At this point, though Kostchtchie is imprisoned in the Nine Hells by Zariel, so Kostchtchie is not as dangerous as the other demon lords if freed, Kostchtchie is a force to be reckoned with.

9 Juiblex- A Giant Pile Of Ooze That Just Wants Everything To Be Ooze

Referred to as The Faceless Lord, Juiblex is a nasty-looking  Demon Lord. Juiblex is a swirling ooze of green and black slime with piercing red eyes. Juiblex often does not have many worshipers as those who do worship Juiblex eventually end up oozes themselves.

A powerful enemy as Juiblex can climb on any surface has limited spellcasting and can eject pieces of itself on the battlefield to attack other party members. All in all, an exceptionally gross and dangerous Demon Lord.

8 Yeenoghu- The Gnoll Lord Who Does Not Negotiate Under Any Circumstance

Yeenoghu is often referred to as the origin of Gnolls, depending on the source material. The ultimate hunter among the Demon Lords, Yeenoghu loves nothing more than to hunt down his prey with a loyal pack of hyenas by his side.

Yeenoghu desires to sow slaughter and destruction across the realms. Many Gnolls serve this Demon Lord and would follow his every whim if he requests it. This Demon Lord would be a powerful adversary to add to any Demon Hunting campaign.

7 Rakdos- The Ultimate Entertainer, So It Is Best To Know Some Good Jokes

One of the Lesser Demon Lords Rakdos cares only for the thrill of entertainment. He is the lord of hedonism, and often his followers will do everything and anything to entertain their lord. Rakdos often resides in his lair and only appears whenever he pleases, ensuring his followers are constantly putting on amazing shows and performances.

With a flaming scythe and powerful charm abilities, Rakdos is feared across the realms. He has seen thousands and thousands of performances, so if a party of adventures ever encounters him. Their bard better is ready for the performance of their lives.

6 Graz'zt- Oddly Enough The Most Beautiful Of The Demon Lords

Graz'zt, surprisingly, appears as a "Perfect figure of Untamed Desire" and is the Lord of Pleasure. Graz'zt may not seem as intimidating or grotesque as the other Demon Lords but should be avoided non the less.

Graz'zt Focuses on luring his followers into trances of indulgence and debauchery and often blackmails people into joining his cult. If provoked, though, Graz'zt is not afraid to unleash a fury of violence towards any who oppose him. Fun fact though, he has 6 fingers and toes as opposed to 5

5 Baphomet- A Demon Lord With A Focus On Savergery And Beasts

Baphomet is the Demon Lord of beasts. Referred to as the Horned King and worshiped by many minotaurs, Baphomet cares for the lack of civilization. It will offer power to those who revoke their civilized ways.

Indulging in creating long labyrinths to trap unsuspecting heroes, Baphomet loves playing with the heroes before attacking them in the most savage ways possible. Cull campaign arcs could reside in a labyrinth of Baphomet design.

4 Fraz-Urb'luu- The Demon Lord That Delights In Tricking Heros At Every Turn

Fraz-Urb'luu is the Demon Lord of deception. Though he can appear as a massive gargoyle-like creature, many do not know his true form as he often hides it from his own followers. He specializes in creating these dreamscapes to trap adventures where there is seemingly no escape.

Fraz-Urb'luu would make an excellent BBEG as he could be the mastermind behind whatever plot or campaign the party is up against. The possibilities reveling to the player how this entire adventure, Fraz-Urb'luu, was pulling strings the entire time.

3 Zuggtmoy- Every Mushroom In D&D Can Serve This Demon Queen

Often referred to as the Lady of Rot, Zuggtmoy is an alien-looking Demon Lord. Her list of followers is often unwilling followers as her mind-controlling spores infected them. Though not as powerful as the other Demon Lords, Zuggtmoy is a sinister foe to encounter.

Zuggtmoy is another behind-the-scenes type of Demon Lord. Often controlling large groups of followers to enact her bidding. The Entire campaign could revolve around uncovering her mind-controlled plot. Making players fear every mushroom they encounter.

2 Orcus- The Most Powerful Spellcaster Of All The Demon Lords

Orcus is a Unique Demon Lord as his affinity for magic is unmatched against the other Demon Lords. He is the Lord of Undeath and wields the Wand Of Orcus, which by itself can raise hundreds of undead beings to his service.

Orcus is one of the more organized Demon Lords as he often relies on his undead army to aid him in every battle. Having Orcus in a campaign would provide opportunities for full-scale battles with massive armies fighting against Orcus's undead onslaught.

1 Demogorgon- The Most Recognized But Often Misused Demon Lord

The Prince of all Demons should be feared by mear mention. The Popularization of the TV show Stranger Things leads to many people hearing about Demogorgon. However, the Stranger Things version pales in comparison to the Ruler of the Demons.

Demogorgon is a two-headed being of absolute chaos. He seeks to corrupt all things in the multiverse and wants everything to be consumed by the infinite Abyss. All other Demon Lords practically bow in his presence and power. If the party ever encounters Demogorgon, they are in for the fight of their lives.
