Streaming data for Jupiter's Legacy demonstrated how the series was a streaming success, though its cancellation was due to not meeting the level of Netflix standards.
The data provided by Reelgood illustrated how the superhero series performed in its first four weeks. Although starting out strong, Jupiter's Legacy saw significantly less engagement compared to other major series like The Queen's Gambit and Bridgerton. While some of the other shows had a significant increase in engagement after Week 1, Jupiter's Legacy went down sharply by Week 3.
The series actually followed a similar trajectory of another recently canceled show, The Irregulars. Both series experienced a decline in viewership within two weeks of their premieres. Jupiter's Legacy and The Irregulars also saw fewer days as Netflix's "#1 TV Show" and less time in the streaming service's "Top 10 TV Shows." With a reportedly high budget for Jupiter's Legacy, it seems that the turnout for the comic book adaptation did not compare to investment.
Netflix recently renewed Shadow and Bone, which was also featured in the streaming data. While experiencing slightly more time in Netflix's top TV show charts than Jupiter's Legacy, the fantasy series stood apart in its streaming and engagement numbers. It had a sharp increase in its second and third weeks, even surpassing Bridgerton at one point. This may explain why Shadow and Bone was renewed but Jupiter's Legacy wasn't.
Despite its cancellation, the world of Jupiter's Legacy will continue through a Supercrooks spinoff. Supercrooks takes place in the same universe as Jupiter's Legacy but focuses on supervillains who join together for a major heist. Created by Mark Millar and Leinil Francis Yu, Supercrooks is also being adapted into an anime by Bones. There has been no word yet on casting for the live adaptation, or if any of the Jupiter's Legacy cast will make an appearance.
Jupiter's Legacy stars Josh Duhamel as The Utopian, Ben Daniels as Brainwave, Leslie Bibb as Lady Liberty, Elena Kampouris as Chloe Sampson, Andrew Horton as Brandon Sampson, Mike Wade as The Flare, Anna Akana as Raikou and Matt Lanter as Skyfox. Season 1 is available on Netflix.
