LEGO Adds Luigi and Co-Op to Its Mario Set | CBR

The Super Mario LEGO collection just revealed a Player 2 addition in their latest promotional trailer.

The video focuses on two young girls playing with LEGO versions of Mario and his brother Luigi that feature voice recordings and color-coded LED Bluetooth bandanas. The friends then proceed to hop the Nintendo brothers across LEGO sets featuring recreations of iconic Nintendo structures, knock over a Boom-Boom figure, and perform a dance routine that wins Mario and Luigi some extra virtual coins.

Other Mario LEGO sets spotlighted in the trailer include the co-op 'Lakitu Sky World Expansion Set,' where the girls try to knock a Lakitu off its spinning cloud perch, and a series of starter packs lined up in a Mario Party-like formation. The dance moves also get more surrealist, with one of the girl's dads catching them in the act of literally walking up the walls of his house. Eventually he decides to join in on the fun by bringing in 'Bowser's Airship Expansion Set,' complete with a pirate hat-wearing Goomba and Kamek figure.

Alongside their LEGO products, Nintendo recently announced a number of exclusive games at the 2021 E3 Nintendo Direct conference. These include Mario Party Superstars, a Nintendo Switch compilation of 100 mini-games pulled from past Mario Party entries, Metroid Dread, a new side-scrolling entry in the Metroid franchise, and brand new gameplay footage of the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel, which shows Link performing more aerial maneuvers and using new power-ups. Game developer Ubisoft also announced the 2022 release of Mario + Rabbids Spark of Hope, a sequel to 2017's Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

In addition to Super Mario, LEGO will release a number of major franchise-themed products this summer. Some notable examples include the Guardians of the Galaxy's Benatar ship, sets from the Jurassic World films, and a LEGO version of Avengers: Endgame's Thanos battle.
