MCU: 10 Best Sidekicks, Ranked By Strength | CBR

While the MCU is filled with heroes, it's got plenty of sidekicks as well. There have been many secondary characters in sidekick-type roles over the years. Some have managed to break out of the role of sidekick while others play their part dutifully for the heroes they support.

Sidekicks are not only psychological and emotional support for the heroes, but they can also be some serious battle support as well depending on their abilities. Some sidekicks are more valuable than others depending on their powers and how well they complement the hero they work with the most. Strength can be measured in various ways, but all of these sidekicks are strong in their own respects.

10 Iron Man's Faithful Forehead Of Security, Happy Hogan

Happy Hogan has been by Tony's side since the beginning and has faithfully served him as a driver, and bodyguard, at least until Tony donned the Iron Man armor. Happy is a big guy and has experience with fighting, having been a boxer in his younger days.

While he has been shown to take down a bad guy or two, he often gets in over his head and at the end of the day, he is only human. Happy has courage considering he has no powers or special gadgets, but unfortunately, courage alone doesn't make him the strongest.

9 Knockout Puncher Luis & The Boys, Kurt & Dave

While the boys from Ant-Man aren't the most impressive, they all bring something to the table that helps them assist Scott and Hope on a couple of occasions. Dave is great at thinking on his feet as showcased during Ant-Man when he took Paxton's patrol car for a joy ride.

Dave is a tech wizard able to hack into systems as complex as Hank Pym's home and Pym Industries. Luis is a goofball, but he has an incredibly mean left hook and has a reputation for being able to knock out opponents more than twice his size. The versatility of this group definitely earns them a spot on the list.

8 S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents Phil Coulson & Maria Hill

Coulson and Hill are exceptional S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, so much so that Fury actually lets Hill call him Nick, and Fury even went so far as to resurrect Coulson after the battle of New York (at least in one timeline). Hill and Coulson are also expertly trained in a variety of martial arts and fighting techniques.

They also have access to a vast catalog of rare and unique weaponry as well as useful gadgets and incredibly tactical and stealthy gear and apparel. These two always seem to be prepared for almost any situation and they are certainly excellent at what they do for S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury, and The Avengers.

7 J.A.R.V.I.S. Before Becoming Part Of The Vision

While J.A.R.V.I.S. was more of a program than a true sidekick, he was still responsible for managing the entire Stark mansion, Stark Tower, and presumably a vast majority of the day-to-day at Stark Industries. Additionally, J.A.R.V.I.S. was responsible for managing not only the Iron Man suits that Tony actually wore but also the Iron Legion.

F.R.I.D.A.Y. has taken over the responsibilities since the J-Man left. J.A.R.V.I.S. created everything she runs from scratch with minimal prompting from Tony. J.A.R.V.I.S. was a complex, witty, and personable A.I. algorithm powerful enough to subconsciously keep Ultron from accessing nuclear codes, even after Ultron seemingly destroyed him.

6 Falcon/Sam Wilson Pre-Captain America Days

Despite only knowing Steve for a short period of time, Sam didn't need much to fully support Cap during his public-enemy-number-one campaign. Sam has military experience and a good heart, making him a good fighter and a good hero as well. His aerial wingsuit certainly helps the case for being a strong sidekick.

Sam has a mastery of his Falcon suit and can perform a variety of stealthy aerial maneuvers. He is also able to bring a passenger along, which was helpful in getting Cap onto the Project I.N.S.I.G.H.T. helicarriers during Captain America 2. The wingsuit also comes with additional artillery, defensive measures, and a helpful little drone named Redwing.

5 Iron Man's Best Pal, War Machine

Rhodey is a military hero in his own right, but when talking about superheroes, he is always second fiddle to Tony's Iron Man. However, he has proven his worth in the superhero realm on multiple occasions thanks to the War Machine armor and its many bell and whistles.

The War Machine armor is packed to the brim with guns, cannons, missile launchers, bomb dispensers, and of course the standard repulsor hand blasters and Unibeam chest repulsor. Additionally, after Rhodey's unfortunate accident, Tony significantly upgraded the armor's durability making Rhodey a true machine of war.

4 Bucky Barnes, The Former Winter Soldier

Once Bucky was able to shake the Winter Soldier persona, he rejoined the good guys beside his best friend Steve. While he doesn't have any armor, he has decades of fighting experience, knows his way around a gun, and has an incredibly handy and capable Vibranium arm. His arm is capable of crushing other metals, most notably, Tony's suits.

While it's recently been discovered that the arm is somewhat detachable, it still provides Bucky with the ability to block bullets, catch himself when jumping from great heights, and vastly increase his punching power. He also happens to have a version of the Super Soldier Serum coursing through his veins making him much stronger and faster than the average person, but not quite on Steve's level.

3 Groot, I Am Groot

Groot is part of the Guardians of the Galaxy, but before that, he served as Rocket's muscle in more of a sidekick capacity, since Rocket was clearly the brains to Groot's brawn. Despite his cheerful good nature and/or bratty demeanor, Groot is no slouch in the fighting department.

When he needs to he can instantly grow his limbs long enough and strong enough to cut through multiple enemies and toss them around like ragdolls. He can also strengthen his exterior, regenerate limbs, and even be reborn from a single twig, making him a relentless and powerful partner indeed.

2 The Warriors Three & The Lady Sif

The Warriors Three and the Lady Sif are Asgardians, making them incredibly powerful people by default. Hogun isn't actually Asgardian, but it appears the people of Vanaheim are just as strong, if not stronger, considering Hogun lasted longer than his comrades against Hela. While they are not nearly as powerful as Thor, they are much stronger than the vast majority of humans on Earth.

They are also incredibly old, meaning they have decades, even centuries of battle knowledge against a variety of enemies. They also have magically embued weapons, much like Thor's Mjolnir, as well as armors made from the strongest Asgardian metals.

1 Wong, The Librarian Of Kamar-Taj

While Wong may not be the most physically strong sidekick, his knowledge and prowess of the mystic arts make him an incredibly valuable sidekick indeed. One could argue that the Asgardians should be in the top spot. However, considering Dr. Strange was able to drag Thor around the New York Sanctum effortlessly and keep Loki falling through a random dimension for thirty minutes, Wong may have similar advantages over the Asgardians.

While Strange is clearly the greatest among the practitioners of the mystic arts, Wong is no slouch. He may not be as naturally gifted as Strange, but he has been studying and practicing for many more years. He is also the librarian of Kamar-Taj meaning that he spends most of his downtime learning about new and advanced techniques. With his mastery of the mystic arts, Wong is truly an incredible ally worthy of the top spot.
