There are an infinite amount of Quirks in the world of My Hero Academia, and many of these Quirks alter an individual's appearance. This explains why so many characters look like animals, although they still remain mostly human below the neck. In many cases, these Quirks give heroes the powers of a certain animal, although there are some instances in which an individual's appearance and Quirk are completely unrelated.
People with animal-themed Quirks usually name these Quirks after the animal they share similarities with, making their Quirk's power easy to remember. Animal-based Heroes often thrive in a particular environment, and have the same speed, strength, and heightened senses that an animal does.
10 Nezu: His Quirk Grants Him Advanced Intelligence
Nezu, the principal of U.A. High School, resembles a mouse. The reason why he looks like an animal isn't because of his Quirk, but because he actually is a mouse. Nezu is a rare case of an animal developing a Quirk. Called High Spec, this Quirk makes him more intelligent than most people, and also allows him to interact with and live comfortably around humans. He is shown to wield his Quirk rather sadistically during Mina Ashido and Denki Kaminari's Final Exam, laughing as he sealed their escape routes with an industrial crane.
9 Hound Dog: He Has The Attributes Of A Dog
Hound Dog, who works at U.A. High School as a guidance counselor, resembles a canine thanks to his Quirk, Dog. He often communicates through a series of howls and growls, completely forgetting human speech when angered. This, combined with the muzzle on his face, often makes it difficult for others to understand him. He also has other dog-like abilities, including a heightened sense of smell.
8 Fumikage Tokoyami: He Can Control His Shadow
Fumikage is a student in U.A.'s Class 1-A. Although most of his body remains human, his head and neck resemble that of a black bird. His Quirk, Dark Shadow, also takes on a bird-like form when summoned, but the avian similarities end there.
The powerful shadow manifests outside of Fumikage's body and gains strength in darker environments. Since it gets weaker in the light, it's easier to control during the day. On the other hand, complete darkness makes it more prone to rampaging. Dark Shadow has great offensive and defensive capabilities, and Fumikage is able to use it to fly.
7 Mirko: She Has The Speed And Agility Of A Rabbit
As suggested by her name, Rumi "Usagi"yama, Mirko's Quirk is called Rabbit, which, as expected, gives her the abilities and appearance of a rabbit. She has fluffy white ears and tail, as well as boots that make her appear to have rabbit feet. She has sharp hearing, incredible speed, and strong legs that allow her to deliver powerful kicks to her opponents. She is also able to sense how much danger an individual poses to her.
6 Gang Orca: His Strength And Speed Increase In Water
Gang Orca is easily one of the most intimidating Pro Heroes. Although his form is mostly human-like, he still resembles a killer whale thanks to his Quirk, Orcinus. This gives him incredible strength on land and at sea, though his powers are enhanced when he's in the water.
Gang Orca is also able to use sonic waves that can counter many long-range Quirks, including Shoto Todoroki's ice glaciers. Despite Shoto and Inasa Yoarashi being some of the strongest students taking the exam, he didn't have any difficulty fighting them.
5 Centipeder: He Can Extend His Limbs
Centipeder works at Sir Nighteye's Hero Office, and is seen swamped with work that Sir Nighteye had previously done all by himself. His body, with the exception of his head, normally resembles that of a human. However, his arms become centipede-like when he activates his Quirk, Centipede. He uses these long limbs to attack and capture foes from afar. Despite having such a scary appearance, Centipeder is a polite and well-dressed hero.
4 Jack Mantis: He Can Produce Blades From His Body
Jack Mantis is a student from Class 1-B who resembles a praying mantis, especially when using his Quirk. Called Razor Sharp, this Quirk allows him to create blades from any part of his body. These blades are far stronger than they look, as he uses them to effortlessly cut through steel pipes.
Katsuki Bakugo notices Jack Mantis' sharp reflexes and his ability to withstand an explosion from him, but still manages to quickly defeat the bug hero.
3 Froppy: She Does Whatever A Frog Can
Tsuyu Asui is a student from U.A.'s Class 1-A, and her Quirk is aptly named Frog. She shares many visual similarities to the animal, including round eyes, large hands, a wide mouth, and a long tongue. She can do whatever a frog can, such as extending her tongue, sticking to walls, camouflaging, and secreting mucus with a variety of effects as she hops around on all fours.
She is also able to store things in her stomach and regurgitate them, though this particular skill embarrasses her.
2 Habuko Mongoose: She Can Paralyze Someone For Three Seconds
Habuko is an old friend of Tsuyu's who goes to Isamu Academy High School. She has a paralysis Quirk, which she used on Tsuyu a lot before they become friends. By staring into someone's eyes, she can make them go completely limp for three seconds.
Thanks to her snake head and neck, she had low self-esteem and no idea how to socialize. However, after befriending Tsuyu, she had the confidence to make more friends in high school.
1 Pony Tsunotori: She Can Launch And Quickly Regrow The Horns On Her Head
Pony is a Class 1-B student who has the traits of a cow and a horse. She has a thin, long tail, horns, and feet that resemble hooves. Like Tsuyu, she has been seen running on all fours. Her Quirk is Horn Cannon, which allows her to fire her horns from her head like a projectile. Pony is able to control multiple pairs of horns at once and regrows them very quickly. She can even use these horns to carry people into the air.
