Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff The Patrick Star Show debuted a new trailer and confirmed the series premiere date.
The trailer shines the spotlight on the eponymous starfish prior to the events of SpongeBob and introduces not only his family but plenty of other colorful underwater characters. It also reveals that the series premieres Friday, July 9, and Nickelodeon confirmed separately that it will air in the 7:00 p.m. ET/PT time slot.
The Patrick Star Show is the second SpongeBob spinoff following Paramount+'s Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years. According to ViacomCBS Kids & Family's Brian Robbins, the idea of expanding the SpongeBob franchise was one he'd been contemplating since he first got to Nickelodeon. "I asked a question: It's been 20 years — has anyone thought about doing anything else with this great cast of characters?" he recalled. "I didn't really get an answer, but that was the jumping off point to explore it. There are so many amazing characters in SpongeBob…It's just an amazing collection of stories and characters. So we went from there."
The Patrick Star Show follows a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family, where he hosts his own show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom. His little sister, Squidina, works behind the scenes to make sure Patrick’s show is always running smoothly, while his parents, Bunny and Cecil and his grandpa, GrandPat, each support Patrick in their own hilariously absurd ways. The Star family’s unpredictable adventures often inform, integrate, and sometimes even interfere with Patrick’s TV show, but one thing is for sure: his bizarre life always makes for great television!
The Patrick Star Show stars Bill Fagerbakke, Tom Wilson, Cree Summer, Jill Talley, Dana Snyder, Tom Kenny, Rodger Bumpass, Carolyn Lawrence, Clancy Brown and Mr. Lawrence. The series premieres Friday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon.
