Sony has unveiled the latest batch of games to be included with its subscription service PlayStation Plus.
Announced on the official PlayStation blog, July's games include Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII, A Plague Tale: Innocence, WWE 2K Battlegrounds and Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown. All of the included games will be available for all members starting July 6 and ending on Aug. 2. This is the second month in a row Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown has been offered by PlayStation Plus.
Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII was originally released in 2019 and was met by a middling to positive reception from fans and critics. Black Ops IIII is the first game in the Call of Duty franchise to launch without a dedicated single-player campaign. Instead, developer Treyarch Studios focused on the game's competitive multiplayer, cooperative Zombies mode and battle royale offering, Blackout.
Launched in 2020, WWE 2K Battlegrounds brought the wrestling video game franchise back to its arcade roots. The art style shifted to incorporate a more cartoon tone as players used special abilities and power-ups to overcome opponents. The game shipped with an impressive roster of fighters and supports local and online multiplayer. WWE 2K Battlegrounds received average reviews, with many critics lamenting its poor controls, shallow gameplay and lacking content.
A Plague Tale: Innocence is a survival-horror stealth game that follows Amicia and Hugo, two orphans, as they journey across a world consumed by deadly swarms of rats. Developed by Asobo Studio, both fans and critics adored the game's detailed world, compelling writing and engaging story. A sequel titled A Plague Tale: Requiem was announced during E3 2021.
Lastly, Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown returns to PlayStation Plus. The remake of the iconic fighting game provides players with "intense martial arts combat, deep strategy, and intricately balanced gameplay," while also adding new online multiplayer features. The SEGA published fighter is the most recent release in July's bundle of PlayStation Plus games.
PlayStation Plus is a subscription offered by Sony to all PlayStation owners. For $60 a year, members receive exclusive in-store deals, free monthly games and 100GB of cloud storage. PlayStation Plus is also required for online multiplayer gaming.
Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII, WWE 2K Battlegrounds, A Plague Tale: Innocence and Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown will be available for free to PS Plus subscribers between July 6 and August 2.
