REPORT: Ghost of Tsushima Standalone Expansion Planned for 2021

Following rumors stating that Ghost of Tsushima would be coming to PC, newly leaked information indicates that the critically-acclaimed action-adventure RPG will instead be receiving an "expandalone" DLC pack, allegedly titled Ghost of Ikishima.

Compiled on the Reddit thread r/GamingLeaksAndRumors, a series of tweets from Nick "Shpeshal Nick" Baker, co-founder of XboxEra.com, indicates that fans can expect an expansion pack of a similar size to Gears 5: Hivebusters to be released sometime in 2021. However, Baker also said that this leak was unintentional on the part of Sony Entertainment and that "someone is about to get in big trouble for this getting out."

Released in 2020 and developed by Sucker Punch Productions, Ghost of Tsushima is a PlayStation 4 exclusive that puts players in control of Jin Sakai, a samurai on a quest to protect the island of Tsushima from the impending Mongol invasion. It was widely praised for its immersive aesthetic and high quality, going on to garner eight nominations at The Game Awards and win the Game Awards' 2020 Player's Voice AwardGhosts of Tsushima: Legends, Ghost of Tsushima's online multiplayer mode, was later released, in which gamers can team up with their friends and play through a variety of different modes.

However, the announcement of an "expandalone-type game" -- larger than a typical expansion pack and smaller than a full-blooded sequel -- also has fans in a frenzy, with many saying that a single-player DLC is the last thing they expected from Sucker Punch Productions. Some seem frustrated that the surprise was ruined, as is echoed by Baker's statement that he's "not sure how so many seemed to find out so quick" and known insider KatharsisT commenting that the news shouldn't have been leaked.

While the plot of the Ghost of Ikishima expansion is yet unclear, it is worth noting that Ikishima is another island in the Tsushima Strait which was similarly ravaged by the Mongol invasions depicted in the first game. Insiders also speculate that the announcement for Ghost of Ikishima could take place during the next Sony State of Play presentation, though nothing has been officially confirmed.

Developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Ghost of Tsushima is now available on PlayStation 4.
