Sailor Moon: Top Evil Versions Of The Sailor Senshi, Ranked | CBR

Sailor Moon villains often have minions who serve as some sort of counterparts to the Sailor Senshi. This was made apparent in the manga by having each evil counterpart face off against their respective Senshi. Often, they will have similar powers and color scheme. Even Sailor Moon herself sometimes gets a counterpart, but others only focus on her four guardian Senshi.

Some adaptations, like the '90s anime or the video games, downplay or emphasize the villains' rivalry with the Senshi. In fact, some add evil versions of the Sailor Senshi that did not appear in the original manga.

8 The Mirror Senshi: They Take The Mirror Image Theme A Bit More Literally

During the fight against the Dead Moon Circus in the '90s anime, the Senshi encounter manipulative reflections that tempt them with their secret desires in order to give up their duties. As the reflection who targeted Sailor Moon appeared to be manipulated by Zirconia, it was unclear if they existed independently. Sailor Moon is able to break out of the control of her mirror image and destroy her with her tiara, causing the others to successfully attack, too.

7 The DD Girls: They Killed The Senshi

Exclusive to the '90s anime, these five fairy-like minions kill the Inner Scouts right before Sailor Moon gets to face off against Queen Beryl. However, the five are also vanquished by kamikaze attacks from Sailor Mars, Jupiter, and Venus. It's unclear if they actually were intended to be counterparts to the Senshi since, beyond there being five of them, they really don't have too much characterization and their colors don't really match up.

Fans have been known to play up the idea that they are evil versions of the Senshi. One fandub based on the Dic dub, for instance, even gave them names like "Evil Serena" and "Evil Raye" as well as giving them similar voices to the Scouts.

6 The Spectre Sisters: Even Death Couldn't Stop Them

The Spectre Sisters appear in the second series as minions of Rubeus, each corresponding to the four Inner Senshi in the manga. Koan targets Mars, Berthier targets Mercury, Petz targets Jupiter, and Calaveras targets Venus. Added to this, each of the sisters has powers similar to their corresponding Senshi, like Koan and Berthier having power over fire and ice.

The first three sisters managed to successfully help capture their respective Scout, but Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask manage to rescue Minako from Calaveras and her sisters' ghosts. In the manga, the wicked sisters are eventually killed off. However, the '90s anime had them each reform, become humans, and even go into the makeup business together.

5 The Witches 5: They Even Have The Same Color Schemes As The Senshi

The Witches 5 sought out pure hearts or souls. Not only did they have similar powers to the Senshi, their dominant colors were the same as the Inner Scouts. Eudial wielded fire like Mars, Viluy used technology like Mercury, Tellu commanded plants like Jupiter, and, Mimete could even make love potions according to the manga, making her a perfect foil to the love-themed Venus. The fifth witch, Cyprine, coexisted with her twin, Ptilol.

Their rivalry with the girls was somewhat downplayed in the '90s anime, as Eudial and Mimete were given more focus than the other three, each of which only appeared in one or two episodes each. Notably, Sailor Jupiter didn't even appear in the confrontation against Tellu in the anime.

4 The Amazon Trio: Their Queen Is A Foil To Queen Serenity

The Amazon Trio were once animals granted human forms to serve the Dead Moon Circus. In the manga, each of the Amazon Trio are sent after a respective Sailor Scout: Fisheye for Sailor Mercury, Hawk's Eye for Jupiter, and Tiger's Eye for Mars. In addition, they reflect the girls' elements: a fish targets the water-themed Sailor Mercury and a bird goes against the wind- and sky-powered Sailor Jupiter. Interestingly, in the manga, their ultimate leader, Queen Nehelenia, is also something of a dark mirror image to the good Queen Serenity.

The '90s anime somewhat downplayed their rivalry with the girls since, as Tiger's Eye was portrayed as the one who targeted young girls, he was usually the one who targeted the Senshi in their civilian forms. This version implied the Amazoness Quartet were foils to the Senshi. Ironically, in the manga, they turn out to be asteroid-themed Senshi.

3 The Sailor Animamates: They Are Literally Evil Sailor Scouts

The Sailor Animamates are a little different than the others in that they aren't necessarily counterparts to the Sailor Scouts fans know and love. According to the manga, they murdered the rightful Senshi of their planets in order to take their place. The '90s anime cut out the middleman, however, and implied they were originally the good Senshi of their planets, who had somehow been corrupted by Sailor Galaxia.

Some fans like to speculate that they could still be counterparts to the main Senshi, often with Sailor Aluminum Seiren functioning as a counterpart to Sailor Mercury, or either Sailor Heavy Metal Papillon or Sailor Lead Crow as a counterpart to Sailor Mars. In the manga, a few of them have a connection to some of the allies of the Sailor Scouts: Sailor Tin Nyanko is from the same planet as Luna and Artemis and Sailor Lead Crow is from the same planet as Phobos and Deimos.

2 The Oppositio Senshi: These Girls Represent The Mesopotamian Gods

The Oppositio Senshi appeared in the Sailor Moon: Another Story game, coming complete with an evil Sailor Moon. Just as the planets take their names from Roman gods, this group takes their names from Mesopotamian and Babylonian gods that correspond to the Scouts' respective planets. Sin is a foil to Sailor Moon, the water-themed Nabu to Mercury, the fire-based Nergal to Mars, the thunder-powered Marduk to Jupiter, and the light-themed Ishtar to Venus. Like Usagi, Sin even has a brother who forms a friendship with Chibiusa. Originating from Crystal Tokyo, they were minions of the evil shamaness Apsu. In the end, the five girls reformed and became normal girls.

1 The Four Kings Of Heaven: They Used To Be Prince Endymion's Guardians

Also known by fans as the Generals, there's a special reason The Four Kings of Heaven correspond to the Sailor Senshi: they functioned as a similar role to the Senshi as Prince Endymion's guardians before they were corrupted by the Moon Kingdom. Some adaptations played up the idea that each of the Four Kings may have been in love with the Senshi in their past lives.

In the manga, the pairings seemed to be Mercury and Zoisite, Mars and Jadeite, Jupiter and Nephrite, as well as Venus and Kunzite. With the exception of Mercury and Zoisite, each of the four kings also died at the hands of their respective Senshi. This rivalry was somewhat downplayed in the '90s anime, with Nephrite even being killed off the episode before Jupiter's introduction.
