Silent Hill Skateboard Disappoints Fans Looking For New Game

Konami has announced a limited-edition Silent Hill skateboard with pre-orders beginning on Jun. 23.

The two editions of the skateboard were shown off in an image tweeted out by the Official Konami Shop, alongside an announcement of a Silent Hill merchandise collection. "Something wicked is rolling into our shop next week," the tweet reads. "We are launching a SILENT HILL MERCH collection along with this amazing Limited Series Skateboard to celebrate..." The boards prominently feature the Nurse monster from the horror video game franchise, with one edition of the board showcasing a more colorful, art-pop rendition of the enemy.

Many fans were disappointed with the announcement, following rumors that a new entry in the Silent Hill franchise was in development. Some fans believe that developer BLUE BOX Game Studios is secretly working on the next Silent Hill game under the guise of the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive Abandoned. The situation is similar to legendary video game designer Hideo Kojima's use of pseudonym Joakim Mogren when announcing The Phantom Pain, which went on to become Metal Gear Solid V.

Speculation was stoked even further when BLUE BOX teased, "Abandoned = (First letter S, Last letter L)," on its Twitter. The studio clarified two hours later, "We wanted to set things straight. We have no relations with Konami. Silent Hill is owned by Konami. We do not have any relations with Hideo Kojima. It was never our intention to tease the name as Silent Hill. We sincerely apologize for this." The tweet has since been deleted.

Many fans still believe that the Silent Hill collection is further evidence that a Silent Hill game will be announced soon. A few followers pointed out the ellipsis as a cryptic end to Konami's announcement tweet, suggesting that the reason "to celebrate" may be a new Silent Hill game.

The Silent Hill franchise has not received a new entry since 2012's Silent Hill: Downpour for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Kojima and film director Guillermo del Toro released a playable teaser for what was meant to become Silent Hills in 2014. P.T. was met with universal critical acclaim but conflicts between Kojima and Konami in 2015 caused Silent Hills to be canceled and the demo to be removed from the PlayStation Store.
