Al Simmons' world has just gotten bigger than ever with the much-anticipated arrival of Spawn's Universe. With a new era comes new threats and a shocking upgrade for one of Spawn's oldest enemies.

Cogliostro has been both a guiding force and a lethal threat to Al's reign as the greatest Spawn of all time, and in the process, he has become one of the most wanted men in the world. And in Spawn's Universe #1, both of their pasts have caught up with them, but Cogliostro has turned what would otherwise be his lowest moment to soar to new heights by transforming himself into Sinn.

Cogliostro has been lying in wait for the demons that he knows are coming for him. Ever since Al Simmons ripped open a hole in time and allowed other era's Hellspawn to become stranded in the present on Earth, Cogliostro has been seeking them out, searching for one whose power would fill the void in his own. Among these was the Omega Spawn, whose followers have come for Cogliostro now. The fight doesn't last long, and Cogliostro was once again imprisoned on Omega Island with a couple of new cellmates in the form of Al Simmons and the Gunslinger Spawn. And on the way to the hole where he had once been kept by the Omega Spawn, Cogliostro is able to grab the last piece of a puzzle that he's been working on since the beginning of mankind itself.

Cogliostro has gone by many names, but he was originally known as Cain, the very first murderer. Shortly after committing the world's first truly heinous act, Cain struck a deal with Malebolgia to become a Hellspawn in the demon's army -- though he only ever had eyes on the throne. Over the centuries, Cogliostro has survived by never giving up the last of his Necroplasm, ensuring he would never perish so long as he kept that small amount of infernal energy for himself. Cogliostro acted as the angel on Al's shoulder for years before eventually betraying his friend and claiming the throne of Hell for himself. This reign did not last, and Cogliostro has again found himself trying to replace his own powers with those of another.

Now that Al has pulled another other Spawns throughout time into the present, Cogliostro is able to finish what began so long ago. With the power of both the Omega and Plague Spawn, as well as a bullet stolen from the Gunslinger Spawn, Cogliostro can begin putting together the dark magic that will transform him completely. The process creates a deadly whirlpool in the middle of the ocean, one that swallows a ship carrying 200 men, all of whom drown before Cogliostro triumphantly erupts from the force of the vortex as Sinn.

This has been a long time coming, but Cogliostro has finally achieved the glory he has sought for decades. Whether or not this is truly the limitless form of power that he has been after is yet to be seen, but there is no doubt that Sinn will be the kind of threat that neither Heaven nor Hell could have ever prepared themselves for. There is no way to know just what Sinn has in store now, especially since his longtime goal of ruling over Hell is not an option.
