Studio Ghibli is bringing four of its most beloved feature films back to theatres this coming fall with Studio Ghibli Fest 2021.
According to an announcement trailer on the studio's YouTube channel, from October through early December Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro will return to theatres nationwide. Each film has received three selected dates and exclusive bonus content is promised to accompany each movie.
Spirited Away, which follows young Chihiro's adventure through a fantastical world populated by spirits from Japanese folklore, will run on Oct. 3, 4 and 6. The warring fictional kingdoms of Howl's Moving Castle are back on Oct. 24, 25 and 28. Studio Ghibli's first film, Castle in the Sky, has Nov. 14, 15 and 18 dates for its run. The festival wraps up with Satsuki and Mei befriending woodland spirits in My Neighbor Totoro on Dec. 5, 6 and 9.
Studio Ghibli Fest has been around since 2017 but took a break in 2020 due to the pandemic. This year boasts two release anniversaries on its slate. Spirited Away is celebrating its 20th anniversary and Castle in the Sky is 35 years old in August. All of the films will be shown in both the original Japanese and English dubbed versions. Tickets will be available for online purchase starting July 16.
