With reopened movie theaters enjoying healthy box office totals and the warm weather sweeping from sea to shining sea, summer is officially upon us as June 2021 nears its end. Leading this past week's wave of new trailers and promos is a wave of upcoming blockbuster films and new anime series and films set to premiere in the weeks and months to come. Not to be outdone, premium streaming services, including Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu and Netflix, have similarly showcased their incoming original content.

As American Horror Story prepares for its upcoming tenth season, the popular horror franchise gets an anthology series spinoff this July with American Horror Stories. Featuring self-contained episodes rather than storylines that run across an entire season, a teaser trailer shows new twists on familiar premises from the fan-favorite series.
American Horror Stories stars Nico James Greetham, Kevin McHale, Dyllón Burnside and Charles Melton. The series premieres Thursday, July 15 on FX on Hulu.
The fan-favorite horror movie icon Candyman returns for a new generation this August, with a new trailer for the upcoming horror movie revealing the sweet-toothed killer's bloody origins. As an artist and his art gallery director girlfriend move into a luxury apartment in Chicago, they discover a sinister secret is buried beneath the gentrified neighborhood, hungry to get out and claim more victims.
Directed by Nia DaCosta from a script by Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld and DaCosta, Candyman stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Colman Domingo, Vanessa A. Williams, Rebecca Spence, Cassie Kramer and Tony Todd. The film arrives in theaters on Aug. 27.
After having its theatrical release delayed for over a year, F9 has finally raced into movie theaters worldwide just in time for the franchise's 20th anniversary. To celebrate two decades of high-octane fun, F9 has released a promo showcasing the Fast & Furious film series since its street-racing roots in 2001 all the way through its globe-trotting antics culminating with the franchise's ninth main installment.
Directed by Justin Lin, F9 stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron. The film is now in theaters.
While the sinister slasher Michael Myers was last seen trapped in a burning house at the end of 2018's Halloween revival film, the Shape is set to incur an even bigger body count when he makes his escape in this October's Halloween Kills. The latest trailer for the upcoming sequel has the Shape target firefighters attempting to put out the fire before setting his sights on Haddonfield once more.
Directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan and Chris Bernier, Halloween Kills stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak and Judy Greer. The film arrives in theaters Oct. 15. Its follow up, Halloween Ends, is currently set for a theatrical release in 2022.
An all-star cast headlines the upcoming revenge western film The Harder They Fall, with Netflix sharing a teaser trailer for the movie. As outlaw Nat Love learns his old nemesis Rufus Buck is being released from prison, he assembles his old gang to finish what he started with the gunslinger, with the teaser featuring everything from gunfights to epic train robberies all set in the Wild West.
Directed by Jeymes Samuel, The Harder They Fall stars Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, Delroy Lindo, LaKeith Stanfield, Danielle Deadwyler, Edi Gathegi, R.J. Cyler, Damon Wayans Jr., Deon Cole with Regina King and Idris Elba. The film arrives in select theaters and on Netflix at a later date.
The upcoming anime series Higurashi: When They Cry - SOTSU's trailer has confirmed the show will go full tilt with its bloody mayhem and embrace the possibilities of the horror genre. Based on a video game series first released in 2002 before being adapted into manga and anime, the trailer follows a high schooler named Keiichi, who moves to rural Japan in 1983, only to discover a terrifying mystery with gory implications.
Higurashi: When They Cry - SOTSU premieres in Japan on July 1. Funimation has licensed the show for distribution in North America.
Bandai Namco Pictures is leaning into the slice-of-life possibilities of the anime medium with its upcoming film Hula Fulla Dance. Following a group of girls that take up hula dancing at a Hawaiian hotel in the Fukushima Prefecture, an impressive crew of anime veterans are poised to bring this colorful tale to life, in time for a theatrical release in Japan this year.
Directed by Shinya Watada, Hula Fulla Dance premieres in Japan on Dec. 3.
Netflix's latest original animated series Q-Force follows a team of LGBTQ+ super-spies embarks on a global mission to save the world, with the American government adding a heterosexual operative to the team following their induction into the intelligence community. The teaser trailer has already generated controversy for its reliance on queer stereotypes and one-note jokes throughout, though a fuller look at the show has yet to be seen.
Created by Sean Hayes and Michael Schur, Q-Force stars Hayes, Gary Cole, David Harbour, Patti Harrison, Laurie Metcalf, Matt Rogers, Wanda Sykes and Gabe Liedman. It will release September 2 on Netflix.
With the Marvel Cinematic Universe poised to return to the big screen this summer after a two-year hiatus, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has unveiled its latest theatrical trailer. Teasing the martial arts superhero's origins under the cruel upbringing of his father, the Mandarin, Shang-Chi is shown confronting his past as he accepts his destiny, while a familiar foe from the early days of the MCU resurfaces to take him on.

One of the most enigmatic figures in the G.I. Joe Universe is ready to take center stage in next month's Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. The latest theatrical trailer for the film reveals more of the ninja warrior's hard-hitting background as he undergoes a strict training regimen while his future allies and enemies make their own introductions into the story.

The cult classic comedy film Turner & Hooch is receiving a revival television series on Disney+ this July, following the children of Tom Hanks' eponymous police detective. With Scott Turner following in his late father's footsteps for a career in law enforcement, the mild-mannered detective finds a new meaning to his life when partnered with a canine companion resembling his father's old dog Hooch.
Created by Matt Nix, Turner & Hooch stars Josh Peck, Lyndsy Fonseca, Carra Patterson, Vanessa Lengies, Anthony Ruivivar, Brandon Jay McLaren and Jeremy Maguire, with Becca Tobin and Reginald VelJohnson. The series premieres July 21 on Disney+.
Wellington Paranormal, the mockumentary spinoff of the popular horror franchise What We Do in the Shadows, has unveiled a new promo ahead of the series' arrival on The CW. Focusing on New Zealand's special police task force focused on investigating supernatural disturbances and crimes, the series premiered in New Zealand in 2018, with a fourth season currently in production.

Acclaimed anime filmmaker Kyohei Ishiguro, the director of the popular series Your Lie in April, has unveiled a trailer for his next project, Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop. The film follows a shy boy named Cherry on his summer vacation, with Cherry sticking to music and writing haiku rather than interact with others. Forming a friendship with a masked girl named Smile, Cherry must learn how to express his true feelings for her before the summer comes to an end.
Directed by Kyohei Ishiguro, Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop premieres July 22 on Netflix.
