Attack On Titan: 10 Times Eren Went Too Far | CBR

Eren Yeager was the main character and final antagonist of the Attack On Titan series. His descent from hero to villain was a gradual one, with his deviant and brutal actions gradually becoming worse as they went unchecked.

Throughout the anime, there were dozens of instances where Eren went too far, even by the grim and merciless standards of the Scouts. His villainous inclinations have been present ever since the beginning of the story, and there are many ways he earned the title of 'Eldian Devil.'

10 Eren Intended To Return To Shiganshina Without Training To Fight The Titans Himself

Immediately after Shiganshina was destroyed, Eren intended to return to it and avenge his mother's death. This was in spite of the fact that not only was he unaware of the Attack and Founding Titans inside of him, he wasn't even formally trained as a Scout and had no ODM gear.

He was disparaging of both Mikasa and Armin, calling them cowards for not sharing his suicidal endeavor. Luckily, Mikasa knocked sense into him before he could humor his suicidal ambition any further.

9 Eren Said He Was Going To Kill Everyone After Reverting To His Human Form

After reverting from the Attack Titan for the first time, Eren was still in a dream-like state. He kept repeating that he was going to "kill them all," referring to pure Titans who had taken everything from him.

However, Kitz Woermann's garrison regiment heard his murmuring and reasonably interpreted it as a threat. Consequently, Mikasa and Armin had to protect Eren, putting them at serious risk on his behalf over something that could have easily been avoided. If Pyxis hadn't arrived when he did, all three friends would have been obliterated by cannons.

8 Eren Headbutted Mikasa To Get Her Attention

At the beginning of the Trost mission, Eren and Mikasa were separated due to the latter's superb potential as a Scout. She desperately attempted to go against their commanders' instructions, much to Eren's frustration.

In order to get Mikasa's attention, Eren headbutted her and proceeded to scream about her duties. Although this was successful, it was unnecessarily brutal considering that Mikasa would have listened to him anyway if the message was delivered more gently.

7 Eren Wanted Historia To Eat Him

After being abducted by the Military Police, Eren learned of Grisha's role in stealing the Founding Titan from the royal family. Overwhelmed by guilt and believing that Paradis would be better off otherwise, he begged Historia to eat him for the sake of humanity itself.

There were two critical errors to his request. Not only is asking someone to cannibalize you wildly inappropriate, Historia couldn't have used the Founder's power properly if she decided to humor him. Eren's hysteria nearly doomed the entire nation of Paradis to stagnation and destruction.

6 Eren Took A Swing At Mikasa In Trost

When Eren first transformed into the Attack Titan under the supervision of Dot Pyxis, he failed to control himself. In a frenzy, he took a swing at Mikasa and almost killed her.

Although she managed to dodge Eren's attack successfully, it sent shrapnel scattering in all directions that created a scar below one of her eyes. Moreover, it demoralized Paradis' forces and almost got the entire mission canceled. Without Armin's presence, Eren never would have been able to compose himself and finish his task.

5 Eren Founded An Ultraviolent Political Party

Eren was responsible for founding the Yeagerist movement, a grassroots militia who served as terrorists and later the central authority of Paradis. They conspired to murder Dhalis Zackary and even helped to distribute Zeke's spinal fluid among military officials.

After taking over the country, Floch (the Yeagerists' second in command leader) began to execute dissenters in the streets and spoke of a new Eldian Empire much like the one Ymir had built generations ago. To complete it, his forces attempted to coerce the Hizuru emissaries into compliance.

4 Eren Caused Staggering Civilian Casualties In Marley

Eren lived in Marley for a decent amount of time to probe its terrain and learn how to cause as much damage as possible. When it became time for his attack, he understood the innocent lives he would be taking, based on his conversation with Reiner.

By the time Armin joined the fray using his Colossal Titan, he was horrified at the graveyards of bodies Eren's actions were filling. Moreover, Eren's presence in the enemy nation forced the Scouts to assist him since they knew that he was too valuable as an asset to lose.

3 Eren Swore Off Mikasa & Armin As Friends

During the Yeagerist takeover, Eren confronted Mikasa and Armin after capturing Gabi. In their abrupt meeting, he told them about the secrets of the Founding Titan's abilities - specifically, that Mikasa was bound to him as an Ackerman, not out of love.

Both of his friends were devastated at his denouncement of their loyalty. Although Armin rushed forward to attack Eren, Mikasa was shocked to find that she had instinctively restrained him. Doing so proved Eren's point and gave them much to think about once they were imprisoned.

2 Eren Wiped Out Eighty Percent Of The Global Population

Eren began the Rumbling with the intention of eradicating all non-Eldian life on Earth. His logic was that if they could not learn to accept his people, they would all have to die.

While his plan would be interrupted by a combination of Scout and Marleyan forces, it was already mostly successful by the time he was killed. Once the dust settled, it was revealed that eighty percent of the world population had already been exterminated. The few survivors there were banded together for a future war against Paradis.

1 Eren Turned His Own Friends & Countrymen Into Expendable Pure Titans

After Jean's explosives separated Eren from the wall Titans and his skeletal body, the Source of All Living Matter desperately attempted to re-establish a connection to its host. Realizing what was at stake if it was successful, Reiner wrestled it into submission while Armin fought Eren directly.

In desperate need of reinforcements, Eren used the power of the Founder to convert all nearby Eldians - including Marleyan refugees and even his own closest friends - into pure Titans. Fortunately, Mikasa managed to kill him before Reiner was overwhelmed with sheer numbers and lost control of his target.
