Attack On Titan: Eren's 10 Closest Friends, Ranked | CBR

One of the things that Attack on Titan fans enjoy most from the manga series is the relationships between characters, especially the friendships. Eren Yeager, the main character and final antagonist of the manga, has had a lot of friends over the years.

When he was young, he didn't get along with many people, but after joining the military, he got close to a lot of his comrades. Unfortunately, by the final chapter, he had to deceive those he was closest to and the friends he once had were no longer able to look at him the same way. Who were the friends he was closest to throughout the entire manga?

10 He Respected Hannes As He Got Older

When Eren was a child, he saw Hannes as a poor example of what a soldier should be. Even on duty, Hannes would get drunk and didn't have any concern about the titans. However, once the warriors broke into Shiganshina, he saved Eren and Mikasa, and tried to rescue Carla but was too afraid to defeat the titan who ate her. Though Eren blamed Hannes at first, he would eventually realize that it wasn't the Garrison soldier's fault. Hannes also changed his ways and became the best soldier he could be, joining Eren's other friends to save him after he was captured by Reiner and Bertholdt. During their mission, Hannes died as he tried to avenge Carla against the same titan who ate her. Eren witnessed this and accidentally used the coordinate for the first time to defeat her.

9 He Couldn't Save Sasha No Matter What

Though they rarely interacted with just each other, Eren and Sasha were on the same team for years. Whether it be when they trained in the 104th Cadet Corps or as two of the few Survey Corps soldiers who survived their battle against the Warrior Unit, the two fought together. Unfortunately, once Eren went to Marley in order to inherit the War Hammer Titan and bring Zeke to Paradis, he started the battle that would end Sasha's life. Gabi, infuriated with the Survey Corps for killing her friends and destroying their home, snuck onto the Survey Corps' ship and shot Sasha. However, Eren had to follow this path so even if he wanted to help Sasha, he wouldn't have been able to.

8 Connie Was One Of The First Friends He Made In The 104th Cadet Corps

One of the first soldiers Eren met when he joined the military was Connie. He was very excited upon learning that Eren was from Shiganshina since that meant he saw the Colossal and Armored Titans break into their home. He asked Eren a lot of questions and after getting to know each other, the two became friends.

They fought for the same goal until Eren betrayed the Survey Corps. Because Connie was very close to Sasha, he lost trust in Eren and no longer saw him as a friend. However, he did eventually learn why Eren had to follow the path he walked on.

7 He Saw Marco As A Worthy Leader

Like Connie, Marco was another 104th Cadet Corps soldier who quickly became friends with Eren and looked after him. Eren even saw Marco as a great leader and wanted to be in the same squad as him, proving that the two made a great team. Unfortunately, Marco died shortly after they had graduated from the 104th Cadet Corps. Eren didn't know about Marco's death for a long time but when he found out, he was shocked.

6 He & Jean Were Rivals Who Became Friends

When Eren first met Jean, they didn't get along. They would constantly fight due to their reasons for joining the military. While Eren wanted to join the Survey Corps and fight the titans so that he could be free, Jean was happy to live a simple, quiet life as a member of the Military Police Brigade. However, Jean decided to join the Survey Corps after Marco, who was his best friend, died. Over the years, Eren and Jean learned how to get along and became good friends.

5 Floch Helped Him Lead The Yeagerists

Like Jean, Eren didn't get along with Floch when he was introduced. When Levi had to choose between rescuing Armin or Erwin and turning one of them into the Colossal Titan, Floch and Eren disagreed with his decision to save Armin. However, once Eren started talking to Yelena and Zeke, planning to deceive them so he could begin the Rumbling, Floch decided to help him in any way he could. He found people who agreed with Eren's goal and helped created the Yeagerists. When Eren couldn't command them, Floch would step up as their leader. Floch even died toward the end of the manga in order to try to help Eren one last time. Because of this, Floch is arguably Eren's most loyal friend.

4 He Got Close To Historia After Learning Who She Was

When Historia was introduced, she went by the name "Krista Lenz" and didn't act like who she truly was. Eren didn't really like Krista, but once he learned why she had to pretend to be a different person and she started acting the way she really wanted to, the two got along.

Once they found out that Eren's father had killed her family in order to steal the Founding Titan and give it to Eren, he was willing to sacrifice his life so Historia could inherit his powers. However, she refused and saved him. He also wanted to protect her from turning into a titan after learning how humanity's predators were connected to the royal family and kept information from the military so she wouldn't be killed by them.

3 He Looked Up To Reiner Before Realizing How Similar They Were

When Eren joined the 104th Cadet Corps, he looked up to Reiner as an older brother. The two would often train together and Reiner would teach Eren some moves. However, once Reiner revealed that he was the Armored Titan, Eren felt betrayed and saw his former friend as his greatest enemy. As the years went by and Eren learned about both the true history of the world as well as what he would do in the future, he understood that he wasn't as different from the Armored Titan's inheritor as he once thought, becoming the villain in Reiner's story. Though they fought each other throughout most of the manga, they were very close for a few years and understood each other even after they became enemies.

2 Armin Was His Best Friend When They Were Children

Armin was the first friend Eren ever had. When they were children, they would fantasize about joining the Survey Corps and traveling around the world. Once they graduated from the 104th Cadet Corps, Eren nearly died as he tried to save Armin from being eaten by a titan, which is how he discovered his powers in the first place. The two fought alongside each other for years, but once Eren's personality changed and he teamed up with Yelena and Zeke, Armin could no longer look at him the way he used to. Luckily, after Eren died, Armin remembered a memory that Eren took away from him in which Armin was able to accept what happened to his childhood friend.

1 He Cared About Mikasa More Than Anyone Else

Out of all of his friends, Eren loved Mikasa the most and had romantic feelings for her. He saved her and helped avenge her parents from human traffickers when they were children. After that, Eren's family adopted her and she did everything that she could do to help him. Once Grisha and Carla died, they were the only family they had left and she joined the Survey Corps so she could save him if he was in danger, which happened many times. In order to achieve his goals, he unfortunately had to betray her so that she would kill him and save the world. However, he was reincarnated as a bird and watched over her, wrapping her in the scarf he gave her when they first met.
