Avengers: 10 Things You Didn't Know About The "War For Wakanda" DLC

Marvel's Avengers has been nothing if not a fascinating game to follow from its initial reveal, to launch and beyond. From being one of the most hyped video games of the last generation to having some of the most mixed critical reception of any game in 2020, the game is an enigma. The biggest problem fans have had with the game have included a lack of things to do in the end game, combined with far too little to do with multiplayer.

In August, another attempt to "fix" this game is coming, as they launch War For Wakanda, an expansion that adds fan-favorite character Black Panther to the universe.  With Black Panther comes a new storyline, but one that's supposedly expanded from the usual operations that add new protagonists to the game. But how much is really going to be fixed in this latest incarnation of the game?

10 It Will Feature Multiple Villains

With the last few Operations, players have ended the storyline battling against a single villain from the Avengers’ history. Kate Bishop’s Operation saw players battle against the Super Adaptoid, while Clint Barton’s storyline involved him going up against Maestro, the evil alternate version of the Hulk.

This time around, the main villain of War for Wakanda is Klaw, but that doesn’t mean he’s the only villain involved. Supposedly players will face multiple villains, all of whom will hopefully be available as Villain Sectors after players finish with this expansion to the campaign.

9 It Will Have A New Faction

The biggest complaint about Marvel’s Avengers aside from the bugs has been all of the repetitive enemies. The entire game just seems to be about players battling AIM bots.

But with War for Wakanda, they’ll be introducing a new faction that works for the main villain Klaw. Hopefully, with this players, will finally get to fight enemies that aren’t robots outside of the rarely-seen watchdog organization.

8 It Will Finally Beef Up Raid Content For Multiplayer

One of the things that’s been most frustrating about Marvel’s Avengers is it hasn’t been able to decide how much it cares about it’s multi-player component. Most of the content is not only able to finished solo, but some of its high-level content can only be completed solo.

But for a while now, developer Crystal Dynamics has talked about how War for Wakanda will feature some high-level endgame content that will be playable in teams only. Hopefully this will be the raid content that long-time Avengers players have been waiting for.

7 It Comes After A New Villain Sector

Most fans who only pop up for new characters have likely ignored Marvel’s Avengers since Clint Barton dropped near the beginning of the year. But there’s a new Villain Sector coming in June that will seemingly deal with the threat of AIM once and for all.

In that Villain Sector, Monica Rappacini will take the center stage again after discovering the power of the Cosmic Cube. With that power, she’ll be a threat to the entire Avengers and they’ll need to come together to take her out. Though Villain Sectors aren’t as extensive as operations, this will likely still play into the story of Avengers.

6 It Comes With A New Outpost

Unsurprisingly, this latest storyline will add a new outpost for the Avengers to hang out at. The main game had a SHIELD helicarrier and Hank Pym’s Ant Hill, while Shield Substation Zero was added in later content.

Since then, players haven’t had too many new places to hang out at between missions. But that’s going to be changing with the introduction of War for Wakanda, which hopefully allow players to run around parts of Black Panther’s home as their latest home base.

5 The Power Level Cap Is Increasing

For a while now, the power level cap has been stuck at 150 for long-time players. Effectively, this meant once players got all of their characters up to level 150 there was nothing else to do. Lately they’ve worked on this by adding additional Champion Levels to let players gain more levels, but their gear score has remained static at 150.

But War for Wakanda will up the gear score players top out at for the first time, and it’s unknown by just how much. If the game is getting plenty of support in the future, it will likely only be by 10 levels or so, giving them room to continue upping gear score at a later date.

4 War For Wakanda Will Have One Of The Biggest Stories Ever For A DLC Pack

Crystal Dynamics is on record for saying the War for Wakanda DLC is their biggest story yet. They’ve even noted that most storylines are referred to as Operations, while this storyline is a full on expansion. What does this mean in terms of actual story length?

Well, the original Kate Bishop Operation ran just around three hours and Hawkeye’s ran around the same length as well. For this to be bigger than either of those it’ll have to run for at least four hours, and will likely be closer to the length of the original campaign.

3 More Hero Costumes Are On The Way

One of the bigger complaints early on in this game’s life was that there weren’t enough costumes for fans to acquire. The store never seemed to change or add any new outfits, and it seemed like everyone was locked into the same few palette swap outfits.

That’s changed this year, as they’ve not only managed to create tons of cool original costumes, but some pretty neat MCU-esque costumes as well. And with War for Wakanda, a whole new collection of costumes will be made available, giving players new options for customization.

2 Spider-Man's Not Coming During This DLC

One thing a lot of people who were waiting on this next DLC might be wondering is whether or not the Wall-Crawler will appear alongside it. The logic is basically that Square-Enix’s best bet for not angering the other fanbases outside of Sony PlayStation fans is to release Spider-Man along with another DLC.

If that’s the plan, it doesn’t seem to be him coming out with War for Wakanda, as the developers still don’t have a release date planned for him, though they do appear hopeful the character will be releasing in 2021.

1 It’s Completely Free To People Who Own The Original Game

Many people who’ve left Marvel’s Avengers after its disastrous launch might not be aware that the game has dropped multiple DLC episodes. The first two added Kate Bishop and Clint Barton in a two-part special that told the story of what eventually happens to AIM if they’re allowed to continue.

The third will be War for Wakanda as people might be aware, but what a lot of people might not know is that it’s still free. Players who’ve bought the original Marvel’s Avengers will continue to get content from it for free as long as they support it.
