Batgirl Film Reportedly Casting a Fiery Batman Villain | CBR

A fiery Batman villain is reportedly one of the villains set to appear in the Batgirl film.

The Illuminerdi reports one of the roles Batgirl is currently casting for is "an actor in his 50s-60s to play the Villain who is described as a disgruntled former firefighter." While it is quite possible this villain could be an original character created for the film, the description is very similar to Firefly, a member of Batman's rogues gallery.

Created by France Herron and Dick Sprang, Firefly made his first appearance in 1952's Detective Comics #184. While Firefly was introduced using lighting effects, he later became known as a pyromaniac in Crisis on Infinite Earths. Firefly was one of the villains to torment Star City in The CW's Arrow, where he was revealed to be a former firefighter.

Other castings for Batgirl include the lead role of Barbara Gordon and her father, Commissioner James Gordon. An actor in her early 20s is being looked at for Batgirl, with the search for Commissioner Gordon looking to cast an actor in his 50s.

Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were tapped to helm Batgirl in May, replacing Joss Whedon who was initially attached to the project. Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and The Flash writer Christina Hodson will pen the script.

Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Batgirl has yet to receive a release date.
