SEGA and Relic Entertainment dropped the first trailer for Company of Heroes 3, which focuses on the Mediterranean front during World War 2.
The cinematic trailer focuses on a group of American soldiers deployed to a Nazi-occupied town in Italy in 1943. The pre-alpha gameplay footage will look familiar to anyone who's played Company of Heroes. Players will assume a top-down view of the battle as they strategically order troops to secure command points. Ambushes and base-building make a return, as well as unique power-ups, including air and mortar strikes.
Company of Heroes 3 will include the biggest single-player campaign the series has yet seen. Some of the franchises' more iconic mechanics, such as TrueSight, have been expanded and improved. Air and naval combat will also play a significant role in Company of Heroes 3, more so than in previous entries.
In terms of factions, the two confirmed forces include the British and American armies. Players will need to look after the residents of Italy, who will assist in their battle against the occupying German forces by providing information on enemy fortifications and strategies.
Company of Heroes is a real-time strategy series set during World War 2. Players take control of a military unit and recreate historic battles across a variety of countries and locations. The first game in the series follows the United States of America's European invasion while the second game chronicles the war on the Eastern Front, largely from the perspective of soldiers serving the Soviet Union.
Company of Heroes 3 launches in late 2022. Players will be able to access an early chunk of the game through the game's early-alpha preview, which launches today and runs for the next three weeks. Fans can register for this build of the game over on companyofheroes.com. Relic Entertainment is requesting that all players who experience this early-alpha look at Company of Heroes 3 offer feedback on how to improve the game.
Relic Entertainment is currently developing Age of Empires IV which launches for PC on Oct. 28. Publisher Xbox Game Studios showed off a better look at the upcoming game during the Microsoft/Bethesda E3 2021 Showcase.
