The first feature-length film developed by LAIKA, Coraline hit theaters in 2009. Adapted from the Neil Gaiman novel and directed by Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach), the movie follows Coraline Jones, a young girl who's exploring her new home when she discovers a secret door to a strange, alternate version of her world -- one that's far more dangerous than it initially seems. A box office success, Coraline was praised by critics for its stunning stop-motion animation and whimsical yet rich narrative.

Three years later, LAIKA released its second feature-length film in the form of ParaNorman. An original horror/comedy, the movie centers on Norman Babcock, a boy whose ability to speak to the dead comes in handy when he sets out to end the centuries-old witch's curse on his small town. Co-directed by Sam Fell (Flushed Away) and Chris Butler (Missing Link), ParaNorman was only a modest commercial hit but earned strong reviews, with praise going to its striking stop-motion visuals and its story's poignant emotional core.
