Disneyland, Disney World Reinstate Indoor Mask Policy | CBR

Disneyland and Disney World are reinstating their policy requiring guests and staff to wear masks indoors amidst the increased prevalence of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases due to the Delta variant.

“The State of California strongly recommends that all guests be fully vaccinated or receive a negative COVID-19 test prior to entering the Disneyland Resort,” reads a statement on Disneyland's website. "Beginning July 30, face coverings are required for all guests (ages 2 and up) while indoors, including on many attractions and in enclosed transportation vehicles, regardless of vaccination status. Face coverings remain optional for all guests in outdoor common areas.”

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed this policy also applies to Disney World in Florida.

After Disney Parks around the world closed down in response to the COVID-19 lockdowns in March 2020, Disney World reopened at 25% capacity the following July, requiring guests and staff to wear masks at all times and have their temperature taken before entering the park. It gradually increased its guest capacity and eased back mask restrictions during the months that followed, leading up to Disneyland's reopening this year on April 30.

While Disneyland initially operated at limited capacity with social distancing and masking guidelines upon welcoming guests back, it returned to full capacity with looser COVID-19 protocols in June. However, with fewer people in the U.S. getting vaccinated against the virus than hoped for and the increased prevalence of the Delta variant, Disney's theme parks are backpedaling shortly after lifting their restrictions.

Other industries are similarly cracking down on COVID-19 safety measures following the spread of the Delta variant. On July 28, Netflix became the first major studio to mandate COVID-19 vaccines for the cast and crew on its productions. This vaccination requirement is in accords with the updated filming protocols announced by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and guilds such as the Teamsters, SAG-AFTRA and the Directors Guild of America on July 19.

“The modifications center on workplace practices for fully vaccinated cast and crew, including changes to outdoor masking requirements and updated mealtime protocols,” read the joint statement issued by AMPTP and its associates. “Producers will also have the option to implement mandatory vaccination policies for casts and crew in Zone A on a production-by-production basis.”
