Evangelion 3.0+1.01 Is Coming to Amazon Prime Video | CBR

Khara, the animation studio behind the Rebuild of Evangelion movies, announced that Evangelion:3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon A Time will make its debut outside of Japan on Amazon Prime Video.

In its announcement on Twitter, Khara revealed that the movie will be available in over 240 countries through Amazon's streaming service and will premiere on August 13. This is the first announcement regarding Evangelion:3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon A Time's international release. Following multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the busy schedule of series creator and director Hideaki Anno, Evangelion:3.0+1.0 was finally released in Japan in March 2020 to rave reviews and the best box office performance of any movie in the franchise. The 1.01 release, which features newly revised and reanimated scenes, was released in Japan in June and will be the version of the movie that will stream on Amazon Prime Video. The movie will be available dubbed in ten languages, including English, Spanish, French and German, and will also be available with its original Japanese audio track with subtitles in 28 languages.

Evangelion 3.0+1.01 is the fourth and final movie in the Rebuild of Evangelion film series, which serves as both a retelling and a continuation of the story that began in the original Neon Genesis Evangelion television series. Hideaki Anno has stated that he intends for this film to be his final work in the Evangelion franchise. The previous three films in the series will also be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Previous entries in the Rebuild of Evangelion movies were localized and released on DVD and Blu-ray by Funimation. In November 2018, Netflix announced that it had acquired the exclusive international streaming rights for the Neon Genesis Evangelion television series, as well as its two follow-up movies, Death and Rebirth and The End of Evangelion. In 2020, GKIDS announced that they had acquired the DVD and Blu-ray publishing rights to the original series and will re-release the anime on physical formats and as digital downloads sometime during 2021.
