F9 is dominating the Fourth of July weekend at the box office while also taking its domestic gross to new record-shattering heights.
According to Deadline, F9 sat atop the domestic box office for the second consecutive weekend, taking in $32.7 million over this four-day frame. Over its first 11 days of release, F9 has revved up $126 million.
F9 also cracked the $100 million mark in North America on its eighth day of release, rendering it the speediest feature to cross that threshold in this territory since the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic started. The blockbuster follows in the footsteps of A Quiet Place: Part II and Godzilla vs. Kong as the only movies to exceed $100 million domestically in the wake of the health crisis.
"This weekend epitomizes the strengths of Universal," Jim Orr, President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution for F9 distributor Universal, said. "We have some of the very best franchises in the history of the industry, as proven by the success of F9: The Fast Saga in its debut last week and the strong hold this weekend, as we also very successfully open films from our tremendous partners at Dreamworks and Blumhouse, delivering audiences the most diverse slate in the industry."
Directed by Justin Lin, F9 stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron. The film is now in theaters.
