Fortnite Celebrates its LGBTQIA+ Community with Rainbow Royale Event

Fortnite will celebrate its LGBTQIA+ community this week with its Rainbow Royale event, which includes custom rainbow sprays, wraps and emotes along with music by LGBTQ+ artists.

Announced on the official Fortnite Twitter, this event encourages players to "get free items, listen to some tunes on the radio and have a good time," all while celebrating Pride. As the name suggests, many of the free items available in the shop are rainbow-themed, including sprays like "Vibrant Heart, Vibrant Llama, Vibrant Boogie, and Vibrant Star." The event will also include a "Sunshine & Rainbows Wrap," the new emote "Take a'bow" and a rainbow flag prop.

Rainbow Royale will also celebrate its LGBTQ+ players with music first featured in last month's "Love ISLV" playlist from Rocket League. The featured tracks consist of LGBTQ+ artists such as Lil Nas X, Troye Sivan, Daya and many more. All of the promoted music will be available for listening on several different radio stations.

This is not the first time Fortnite has used its extensive platform to advocate for diversity and social justice. Another event hosted by Fortnite last July featured a live stream of We The People x More Than A Vote, "a series of conversations that bring together a coalition of athletes and entertainers to inspire and empower young adults to take action against the voter suppression crisis that is disproportionately impacting Black communities."

While Rainbow Royale does not claim to be referencing any particular injustice or hardship faced by the LGBTQIA+ community, it still sets an important precedent that Fortnite is a game that welcomes people of all backgrounds and identities.
