Gundam Evolution Combines Mobile Suits With A Team-Based FPS

Bandai Namco has released the first trailer and details for Gundam Evolution, a new free-to-play, team-based shooter featuring the mobile suits and characters from the long-running anime franchise.

Gundam Evolution will let players build a team out of some of the most iconic mobile suits from the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, each of which will feature unique weapons, skills and stats. The game can be played from either first or third person perspectives, and differentiates itself from other shooters by allowing each mobile suit to fly and boost through the stages at great speed. A closed beta will be held for PC players in Japan in August, with the full game launching sometime in 2022.

While the trailer mostly focuses on Universal Century Mobile Suits such as the transforming Asshimar from Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta and Char Aznable's iconic Sazabi from Char's Counterattack, the inclusion of the Barbatos from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans reveals that Gundam Evolution will also feature characters and mecha from the franchise's other continuities as well.

It is currently unknown if Gundam Evolution is the new e-sports focused Gundam game that Bandai Namco teased in June. The company also produces Mobile Suit Gundam: EXTREME VS. Maxi-Boost On, a fast-paced 3D arena fighter released in arcades and for the Playstation 4. EXTREME VS. Maxi Boost On will be featured as a side tournament at this year's Evo, a yearly event that features high-profile tournaments for the world's most popular fighting games.
