Loki Star Found Out About Season 2 the Same Time We Did | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Season 1 finale of Loki, "For All Time. Always.," streaming now on Disney+.

Loki's renewal was a shock to a lot of people, including members of its own cast.

Sylvie actor Sophia Di Martino recently appeared on Vanity Fair's Still Watching podcast, where she admitted to having no idea about Loki getting a Season 2 until the season finale's mid-credit scene happened. However, when asked whether she'd want the opportunity to appear as more than one Sylvie/Loki variant going forward, Di Martino seemed intrigued by the idea. "It sounds like a lot of hard work," she said, but admitted that she "wouldn't be closed off to anything."

Di Martino was then asked what character traits she would retain for an alternate Loki, given what she has learned about the character across Season 1. In response, she noted that each Loki Variant "all have the mischief that Loki is famous for. Obviously they all have their 'glorious purpose' and we're not sure if they can change, even though they're that kind of person that we can see desperately needs to and wants to be happy. I guess they all have that in common."

Sylvie's tragic origin was explored in Loki's fourth episode "The Nexus Event," revealing that the Time Variance Authority apprehended her as a child and then, after escaping, she was forced to grow up in various apocalyptic events as cover. Seeking revenge against the Time-Keepers, she and Loki eventually discovered the TVA's real orchestrator to be Jonathan Majors' He Who Remains, who was hiding at the end of time beyond the Void. Once he explained that he created the TVA after winning the Multiversal War to protect the "Sacred Timeline" from his multiverse counterparts, He Who Remains offered the two Lokis a choice between killing him or taking his place as leaders of the organization. Sylvie, however, picked the latter option, fighting and sending Loki back to the TVA before killing He Who Remains as part of her revenge.

Loki Season 1 is available to stream on Disney+. A second season is currently in development.
